Ameris Bank overdraft fee

Ameris Bank's 1 January 2025 pricing guide and its consumer overdraft page print a $35 fee when it pays an item, at most three of those fees on a consumer account in one day, and no fee when the account is overdrawn by $5 or less. A returned item is not charged that fee on a consumer account. Opportunity Checking is excluded from the overdraft fee. The wider list is US overdraft fees by bank. Every overdraft guide is on overdraft fee guides. A yearly total from numbers you type is on the bank fee calculator. It does not look up this institution.

What Ameris prints

Opened 24 October 2026. The miscellaneous services pricing guide, dated 1 January 2025, prints an overdraft fee of $35. The footnote says a consumer account is charged at most three overdraft fees a day, and no overdraft fee when the balance is overdrawn by $5 or less that day. The fee does not apply to Opportunity Checking. The guide also says the returned item fee of $35 is for business accounts only.

The consumer overdraft practices page repeats the $35 paid item fee, the limit of three a day, and no fee at $5 or less. It says you are not charged a fee for an item the bank returns. ATM withdrawals and one time debit card purchases are not paid into a negative balance unless you ask. The overdraft consent form says the daily cap is $105, which is three times $35, and that balances of $5 or less are not charged.

A fee already charged is a request. Ameris can say no. The US list is US bank fee guides.

The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not call the institution.

How to avoid the fee

Opportunity Checking is the account the pricing guide excludes from the overdraft fee. On other consumer checking accounts, leave ATM and one time debit coverage off if you want those purchases declined instead of paid.

A returned item is not charged on a consumer account, according to the overdraft page. The store or the company you were paying can still add its own fee. Bring the balance positive. The practices page says Ameris typically does not keep paying overdrafts if the account is not positive within 30 days.
