Capital One charges no overdraft fee
By Karla CastroUpdated October 30, 2026
Capital One's overdraft page says it does not charge overdraft fees for consumer checking accounts. 360 Checking lists Auto Decline, a free savings transfer, and no fee overdraft. If a statement still shows a line that looks like an overdraft fee, asking Capital One to explain it and reverse it is a request. Capital One can say no.
What no overdraft fee means
Opened 30 October 2026. The overdraft options page says you will not be charged a fee if Capital One approves a transaction and the account does not have enough money to cover it. The same page says Capital One does not charge overdraft fees for consumer checking accounts. 360 Checking repeats that there are no overdraft fees, and no monthly fee and no minimum balance.
The choices on that page are Auto Decline, Free Savings Transfer, and No Fee Overdraft. Auto Decline generally declines transactions that would overdraw the account. A preauthorized purchase, such as a gas station hold, can still overdraw the account, and Capital One says it will not charge a fee when that happens. Free Savings Transfer moves available money from a savings or money market account you pick. There is no cost to enroll and no charge when the transfer runs. No Fee Overdraft considers checks, electronic payments, and recurring debit card payments. You can also ask Capital One to consider ATM withdrawals and one time debit card purchases. Capital One may still refuse to pay an item.
No Fee Overdraft needs deposits of at least $250 in two of the previous three calendar months. A new account is not eligible right away. The page says access can start in the third calendar month after opening, and that eligibility is checked again later. If the requirement is missed, No Fee Overdraft stops until the next month it is met. Those changes take effect on the 5th day of the next month.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank, and it does not move the money.
What to say if a fee is on the statement
Use the number printed on the statement. "Hello. I am calling about one line. The date is [date]. The description is [words on the line]. The amount is [amount]. Capital One's overdraft page says consumer checking accounts are not charged an overdraft fee. Please tell me what this line is. If it is an overdraft fee, I am asking you to reverse it." Then stop and let them answer.
If they remove it, ask which day the credit shows. If they say the line is a different fee, ask them to name it. This page has no success rate. A script that is not tied to one bank is on how to ask your bank to refund a fee.
What this does not promise
No overdraft fee does not mean every payment is paid. If Capital One does not approve the item, it is not paid, and the page says there is no fee for that decline. The company you were paying can still charge a late fee. That fee is not a Capital One overdraft fee. A negative balance still has to be covered. The page says you must deposit funds promptly, and that a balance that stays negative can lead to declined items or a closed account. How to ask about an overdraft fee is the US opt in rule for one time debit card and ATM coverage. It does not create a fee Capital One's page says it does not charge.
