Capital One charges no foreign transaction fee

By Karla CastroUpdated October 31, 2026

Capital One's help page on traveling with your card says Capital One does not charge foreign transaction fees on any credit cards. The same page answers that there are no foreign transaction fees when you make purchases outside the United States. This page does not state a debit card fee, because that help page is about the credit card.

What the help page prints

Opened 31 October 2026. The traveling with your card page says Capital One does not charge foreign transaction fees on any credit cards. Under the question about foreign transaction fees for using the credit card abroad, the answer is no. There are no foreign transaction fees when making purchases outside the United States. A purchase in a foreign currency is still converted into a U.S. dollar amount. The conversion rate on the processing date can differ from the rate on the transaction date. The page says Capital One does not adjust the currency exchange rate or charge any currency conversion fees.

On the statement, a foreign purchase should appear as the converted U.S. dollar amount without a separate foreign transaction fee from Capital One. Match the date and the amount to the receipt.

How to avoid the fee

On a Capital One credit card, the help page says the fee is not charged. You do not need a particular travel card for that sentence. It says any of its credit cards. A debit card fee is not printed on this page, so this guide does not invent one.

A merchant that bills you in U.S. dollars for a price that was in another currency is dynamic currency conversion. That is the merchant's conversion, not a Capital One foreign transaction fee.
