What a GoDaddy, Wix, or Namecheap renewal charge means
A GoDaddy, Wix, or Namecheap line is often the yearly renewal of a domain name, a website plan, or both. People miss it because it is not monthly. The companies do not print one required card code on the pages opened 17 October 2026. The name usually includes GoDaddy, Wix, or Namecheap. The price is whatever the account showed at renewal, and it can differ from the first year sale.

Why the charge shows up when you forgot the site
A domain is the name of the site. A website plan is the hosting or the builder. They can renew on different days, so one project can create two lines in the same month. A first year price is often a sale. The renewal is the price in effect on the renewal day. Do not assume the statement is wrong because it is higher than the ad you remember. Open the renewal email and compare the amount.
Namecheap's registration agreement says it is your job to remember the expiry, and that ICANN also requires two reminder emails to the address on the domain's WHOIS record: about one month before expiry, and about one week before. If you picked automatic renewal, Namecheap may try to renew a reasonable time before expiration when the account balance or the card can cover it. The agreement uses $100.00 and $25.00 as an example of two domains in the same ending renewing at different prices. Those figures are an illustration, not Namecheap's current price list. The live price is on the order page.
Wix's auto renew article, opened 17 October 2026, says plans renew at the end of the subscription so the site stays up. Reminder emails start 30 days before the payment. For a yearly or multi year plan, Wix attempts the renewal payment up to 3 weeks before the expiration date. If you do not want the renewal, turn auto renew off before the next payment date. GoDaddy's cancel article says many products renew automatically, and that you can cancel the subscription and keep using the product until the end of the term. You are not charged on the next billing date.
How to turn the renewal off
At GoDaddy, open Renewals and Billing, then Manage Subscriptions. Select the product, then Cancel Plan, pick a reason, and continue. The confirmation screen shows the date the subscription will be canceled. You can use the product until that date. After that date, GoDaddy says the product and the associated data are deleted. A domain with Domain Protection needs an identity check before it is deleted. If you cannot change auto renew, the domain may not be in active status yet. A purchase through the Apple App Store or Google Play is canceled in that store, not in the GoDaddy list.
At Wix, open Premium Subscriptions, choose More Actions beside the plan, then Cancel Plan, then Cancel Now. If you are inside the 14 day refund period on a first time purchase or an upgrade, turning auto renew off cancels the plan immediately and refunds it in full. Wait until those 14 days have passed if you want to keep the plan until it expires. You can turn auto renew back on before the period ends. Closing the whole Wix account is a different job from canceling one plan. Cancel each subscription you do not want.
At Namecheap, the registration agreement says you opt into automatic renewal and that you can pay by card, PayPal, account balance, or another method the company accepts. This guide does not invent a click path the help page did not return on 17 October 2026. Sign in, open the domain, and turn auto renew off before the reminder window closes. If the card on file is old, update it or remove it so a failed renewal does not sit as a retry. After expiry, a reactivation period of about 30 days may be offered, with extra fees, and a later redemption period can cost more. Those fees are set at the time. They are not printed as one national dollar here.
Refunds, if you already paid
GoDaddy's cancel article says to contact GoDaddy Guides to find out if you are eligible for a refund, and it links a refund policy. The cancel page itself does not print a number of days, so this guide does not invent one. Ask with the product name, the charge date, and the amount.
Namecheap's refund policy says fees are non refundable unless that policy says otherwise. A new registration may be refunded at Namecheap's discretion if you cancel within 5 days (120 hours), unless the registry forbids it. A renewal may be refunded at Namecheap's discretion if you cancel within 5 days (120 hours) for most endings. The policy says it is not possible to cancel renewals for a printed list that includes .ca, .au, .de, .eu, .fr, .nl, and other endings on that page. Premium domains, aftermarket subscriptions, and promotional prices are called out as non refundable. The first year of several named hosting packages may qualify for a 30 day money back guarantee. A hosting renewal may be considered if you cancel within 48 hours. Refunds are in US dollars. You carry the exchange rate change. Unless you ask otherwise, the refund goes to the Namecheap balance. Card and PayPal purchases may be able to go back to the original method. Crypto deposits cannot be refunded. Submit a helpdesk ticket with the username, the transaction, the domain, and the purchase date.
Wix's 14 day window is only the case described above. After that, turning auto renew off keeps the plan until it expires and does not, by itself, refund the current term. A domain registration can outlive a website plan. Canceling the builder does not always cancel the domain. Check both lines on the statement. Two charges in one season can be the name and the plan, which is charged twice only if the same product posted two times.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo groups the same merchant when a similar amount shows up again about a week, a month, or a year apart, and it lists a line that already says membership or subscription. You can also mark a name yourself. It does not cancel the plan, and it does not count the charge as savings. One month can miss a yearly renewal. The longer checklist is find subscriptions from a statement.
Questions
- Why did the domain charge before the expiry date?

- Does Wix refund me if I cancel on day 3?
