What a Max or HBO Max charge means on your statement
A line for Max is the streaming plan, an add-on, or a charge from whoever bills you. The United States help center opened on 16 October 2026 still titles the articles HBO Max. Those pages do not print the exact letters a card statement will show. Open the subscription screen and read who bills you.

Why the line looks like that
The US help pages say to find the HBO Max charge on your bank statement, then match it to who billed you. They do not print one fixed line of letters. If HBO Max is part of an internet, mobile, or TV package, the same page says you may not see a separate charge.
To see the biller, go to HBOMax.com/subscription and sign in, or in the app choose your profile and then Subscription. On a TV, choose Settings and then Subscription. The biller is at the top of that screen. You can also ask the internet, mobile, or TV provider.
What the US page lists as the plan price
The unexpected-charge page says that, depending on your provider, you can choose from three plans. Basic with Ads is $10.99 a month or $109.99 a year. Standard is $18.49 a month or $184.99 a year. Premium is $22.99 a month or $229.99 a year. The page says the yearly price is 16% savings. Taxes are added from the billing ZIP code.
A charge can differ from that list. The page names a different plan or billing period, a promo that ended, the Extra Member Add-On billed on its own day, and a pay per view charge. A new subscriber can also see an authorization hold plus the subscription charge. The page says the hold should drop within 7 to 10 days, and that the bank decides the timing.
How to cancel, and what they say about a refund
The plan renews until you cancel. Deleting the app does not cancel it. Cancel before the next billing date to avoid further charges. If WarnerMedia bills you, go to HBOMax.com/subscription, choose Cancel Your Subscription, and note the expiration date. You can stream until the end of the billing period. If the Extra Member Add-On still has days left when the base plan expires, the cancel page says you get a prorated refund for those remaining days.
If someone else bills you, cancel with them. The US cancel page names Amazon Appstore, Apple, Google Play, Roku, Samsung, Xumo, and internet, mobile, or TV providers, including Hulu. For Hulu it says to sign in at hulu.com/account, open Manage Add-ons, and turn HBO Max off. What a Hulu charge means is the page for a Hulu line.
The US refund page says refund rules depend on the biller. For a subscription billed through HBO Max, it says there is a no refund policy. If the charge was unexpected, it says to contact them. Apple, Google Play, Roku, the Amazon Appstore, and Samsung each have their own refund path on that page. Upload the statement to Expenvo and it lists every subscription it finds. Expenvo does not cancel Max for you. Steps for stopping the next charge are on how to cancel a subscription you found on a statement.
Questions
- Does the help center print the exact statement line?
- No. The US pages opened on 16 October 2026 use the name HBO Max. They tell you to check the subscription screen, or the bank statement, for who billed you. They do not print one fixed card descriptor.
- Are $10.99, $18.49, and $22.99 the only amounts?
- Those are the three monthly prices on the US unexpected-charge page, with yearly prices beside them. Taxes, an add-on, a promo that ended, or a pay per view can make the line different. Another company may bill you a different amount.
- Does deleting the app stop the charge?
- No. The cancel page says deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel the subscription. Cancel with whoever bills you, before the next billing date.
- Can I get a refund if HBO Max bills me?
- The US refund page says there is a no refund policy for subscriptions billed through HBO Max. It tells you to contact them about an unexpected charge. A separate cancel page says a prorated refund can apply to remaining days on the Extra Member Add-On when the base plan expires.
