What an Amazon Prime charge means on your statement

People look up Amazon Prime, Amazon Prime*, and Amazon.ca Prime Member because those words show up on statements. Amazon's US charge page prints AMAZON PRIME followed by a code. It does not print Amazon.ca Prime Member.

Why the line looks like that

Amazon's US page for identifying a charge puts Prime in its own row. The names it prints are AMZ*Prime Shipping Club, amzn.com/bill, and AMAZON PRIME followed by a code. The example in that row is AMAZON PRIME*A1B2C3D4Eamzn.com/bill. A store purchase such as AMZN Mktp is a different row.

Amazon.ca's page about a charge you do not recognize does not print that US table, and it does not print Amazon.ca Prime Member. It says an unknown charge can be a trial that ended, a Prime renewal, or a Prime Video channel. Review or cancel those at Your Memberships and Subscriptions.

What Prime costs, by country

Amazon.com's Prime fee page lists $14.99 per month and $139 per year. Prime Video membership on that page is $8.99 per month. Prime for Young Adults is $7.49 per month and $69 per year. An invitation only Prime Shipping plan is $14.99 per month. After you verify eligibility, Amazon says some government assistance recipients can pay $6.99 per month. Sales tax may apply in some states. The membership is charged automatically when a trial or period ends.

Amazon.ca's Prime fee page lists $9.99 per month and $99 per year. Prime Student is $4.99 per month and $49 per year. An invitation only Prime Shipping plan is $9.99 per month. Taxes may apply. The phone number on that page is 1-877-586-3230. Do not use the US dollar table for an Amazon.ca membership, or the Canadian table for an Amazon.com membership.

Cancel, or find the other company

Both fee pages say to cancel at Manage Prime Membership. If the membership is through another company, Amazon says to contact that company. Amazon.ca's terms say that if you do not cancel before a renewal, the membership continues and Amazon charges the fee with an eligible payment method it has on file.
