What an Experian, Equifax, or credit monitoring charge means
A credit monitoring line is a membership with a credit bureau or with a company that shows you a score. Some memberships are paid and renew. Some score tools are free and should not be a monthly card charge. Match the name on the statement to the company, then cancel in that company's account. This page does not invent a price for Experian, Equifax, or TransUnion.

Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion in the US
Experian's help page says you can update a paid monthly membership to a free membership with no monthly costs by signing in and choosing the membership type. The free account it describes includes the Experian credit report and FICO score updated daily on sign-in, Experian credit monitoring alerts, and online disputes. You can also update the membership by phone. The page does not print the phone number or a paid plan price.
Equifax's US cancellation policy says you may cancel at any time by phone or online. You keep access until the cancellation date in the product terms. A monthly subscription ends at the end of the current billing cycle. An annual subscription ends on the next occurrence of the purchase day. If you bought on the 15th, cancellation is effective on the next 15th. If you bought on the 29th, 30th, or 31st and that day does not exist in the cancel month, it ends on the last day of that month. A free or reduced trial ends at the end of the trial if you cancel before the trial ends. A one-time score or report stays active for 30 days and expires on its own. There is no need to cancel that one-time product.
TransUnion's membership help page says Credit Essentials is the free monitoring subscription and Credit Premium is the paid one. To cancel Credit Premium, log in, click Settings, then Membership Details, and use the cancel option at the bottom. Or call (833) 543-4353. The page says agents are available Monday to Friday from 8am to 9pm Eastern Time, and Saturday to Sunday from 8am to 6pm Eastern Time, and closed on US holidays. To leave free Credit Essentials, the same Settings path has a delete account option. Older TransUnion Credit Monitoring, TrueIdentity, and zendough accounts were moved to Essentials or Premium. The page does not print a Credit Premium price.
Equifax Canada and Borrowell
Equifax Canada's terms say personal product memberships renew until you cancel, and paid fees are charged in Canadian dollars. You can cancel any subscription product at any time. By phone, call 1-866-820-8911, Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time, and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time. You can also use the site or write to the address in the terms. Cancellation is effective when Equifax receives it. You get a confirmation and a Cancelled status in Order History, and you immediately lose access to the credit data and other benefits.
For a paid Equifax Canada subscription, the terms say you may be entitled to a prorated refund for a product purchased but not yet provided. If you already paid, a monthly subscription is canceled at the end of the current billing cycle. An annual subscription is canceled on the purchase date of the month you cancel, or on the last day of the month if that date does not exist. A free trial is canceled at the end of the trial if you cancel during the trial. Equifax will not bill the trial until it ends, unless you already canceled.
Borrowell's terms say the free credit score service provides credit reports and scores from a bureau such as Equifax, at no charge, for as long as the account stays open. That can include a soft check, which Borrowell says does not affect the score. Credit Builder and Rent Advantage are separate services. Borrowell says the way to close the account is to contact Borrowell. The free score itself should not be a monthly card charge. A charge after you only wanted the free score is a reason to ask whether Credit Builder or Rent Advantage is on the account.
Credit Karma, and a line you do not recognize
Credit Karma's help article about whether the service is free did not open on 17 October 2026, because the secure connection could not be verified from this check. This page does not quote a Credit Karma price and does not invent a descriptor. If the statement says Credit Karma or Intuit, match the date and the amount in that account before you treat it as an Experian, Equifax, or TransUnion membership. Intuit's own charge names are on what IN * means.
A bureau membership you meant to keep is not fraud. A membership you never opened is a reason to cancel it and to ask the company about the charge. The list of repeating names is on how to find subscriptions from a statement.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo groups the same merchant when a similar amount shows up again about a week, a month, or a year apart, and it lists a line that already says membership or subscription. You can also mark a name yourself. It does not cancel the plan, and it does not count the charge as savings. One month can miss a yearly renewal. The longer checklist is find subscriptions from a statement.
Questions
- Is a free score the same as a paid monitoring plan?
- No. Experian describes a free membership with no monthly costs. TransUnion describes Credit Essentials as free and Credit Premium as paid. Borrowell says the score and report are free, and Credit Builder is separate. A card charge means a paid product is billing you.
- Does canceling Equifax Canada cut off access right away?
- Equifax Canada's terms say you immediately lose access when the cancellation is received. A monthly plan you already paid is canceled at the end of the current billing cycle. Check the confirmation in Order History.
- Do these pages print a monitoring price?
- The Experian, Equifax, TransUnion, and Borrowell pages opened on 17 October 2026 do not print a current paid plan price. Use the dollar on your statement and in the company's account.
