What an IN * or Intuit charge means on your statement

People search IN * because a card line starts with those letters and then a compressed name. Intuit's own page on charges you do not recognize, opened 17 October 2026, never prints that prefix. It tells you to match the amount and the date in your Intuit billing history, or in the Find a Charge tool.

What Intuit's page actually says

The article is titled Understand Intuit charges on your credit card or bank statement. Intuit updated it on 3 August 2026. The page says that if you do not recognize an Intuit or QuickBooks charge, you can check your billing history or use the lookup tool. It says charges are typically subscription fees or service usage. It does not give one required string of letters that every bank must print, and it does not mention IN *.

A separate note on that page matters if you connect a bank inside QuickBooks. If you use online banking with QuickBooks, your bank might charge a service fee for the connection. Intuit says this charge comes from your bank, not from Intuit. A line that is only your bank's connection fee will not show up in Intuit's billing history. Read the description. If it is your bank's name and a service fee, start with the bank. If it says Intuit or QuickBooks, start with the steps below.

The full list of these short names is on statement codes. Named companies are on what is this charge on my statement.

What you need before the lookup

Intuit lists three things you must have: the credit card or bank account number, the amount of the charge, and the date of the charge. Without those, the lookup cannot pick one bill out of a list. Copy them from the statement before you sign in. The last four digits are often enough for you to know which card it was. The tool itself asks for the account number, so have the card in front of you.

Pending charges are a different problem from a posted Intuit bill. If the line is still pending, wait until it posts and the amount stops changing, then compare. A hold and a later posted line can be one purchase. That timing is on pending vs posted charges.

Where the bill is inside Intuit

For QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Self-Employed, or QuickBooks Payroll, Intuit says it sends an email each time the subscription fee is billed, and that you can view the invoice in the product. Sign in, select Settings, then Subscriptions and billing. You see active subscriptions. Select View Payment history. To save an older invoice, go to Settings, then Subscriptions and billing, then View payment history, find the invoice, select it, and choose Export to PDF. Match the PDF amount and date to the statement.

For QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Enterprise, Intuit points you to the Customer Account Maintenance Portal at camps.intuit.com. Sign in, select View your transaction history, pick a date range, and open the order. Intuit says you can select transactions from the past two years. Optional: print from the printer icon. Select Back to my Account to return to the dashboard.

The Find a Charge tool on the same help article covers QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Enterprise, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Self-Employed, Intuit QuickBooks Workforce, QuickBooks Time, and QuickBooks Checks and Supplies. Intuit says the form shows charges processed on or after 27 May 2020. A charge older than that date will not be in that form. Use the payment history inside the product, or the email Intuit sent when the fee was billed.

If the history does not match

If the amount and date are in View Payment history, the line is an Intuit subscription or a service charge, even when the statement shortened the name. Turn off a renewal in that product's billing page if you do not want the next one. The general steps for taking permission away are on how to cancel a subscription. The button that actually stops the next Intuit bill is inside Intuit, not on the bank statement.

If nobody with access to the card bought an Intuit product, and the lookup shows nothing, contact the card issuer with the date, the exact description, and the amount. A second posted line for one bill is charged twice. Do not treat the letters IN * as proof by themselves. Intuit's article identifies the charge from the account number, the amount, and the date.

Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines so you can match a short name to a date and an amount. It does not call the bank, and it does not dispute a charge.

Questions

Does Intuit say the statement will show IN *?
No. The Understand Intuit charges article, updated 3 August 2026, does not print the letters IN *. It tells you to use billing history or Find a Charge with the card number, the amount, and the date.
Why is a bank connection fee not in my Intuit history?
Intuit says a service fee for the online banking connection comes from your bank, not from Intuit. That line will not be an Intuit subscription invoice.
How far back does Find a Charge go?
Intuit says the form shows charges processed on or after 27 May 2020. Desktop and Enterprise transaction history in the Customer Account Maintenance Portal can show the past two years.
Does Expenvo know which Intuit product it was?
No. Expenvo reads the description on your statement. You match the amount and the date in Intuit's payment history.
