What a Shop Pay Installments charge means
Shop Pay Installments is a way to split one order into later card payments. The first payment is at checkout. The rest are charged on the schedule you picked. A store purchase that shows up as SP *, and a Shopify bill to a store owner, are already on [what SP or SP * means](/guides/statement-code-sp). This page does not repeat those two codes.

Who can use it
Shopify's customer experience help page, opened 19 October 2026, says the customer needs a billing address in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom, and needs to be signed up for Shop Pay. The order total must be from $35 to $30,000 USD in the United States, from $35 to $30,000 CAD in Canada, or from 50 to 30,000 pounds in the United Kingdom. Installments are only for domestic purchases. The billing address, shipping address, payment details, and Shop Pay Installments account country have to match the country of the business, and the checkout currency has to match. A Canadian card can show a Canadian store. It is not the path for a US store unless the whole checkout is in the United States.
The help page does not print one required statement code. It does not say the line must contain the word Affirm. Match the store name and the amount to the email Shopify sends before each later payment. Other installment products have their own pages, including what a Klarna charge means.
US and Canada payment options
In the United States the same page lists two biweekly interest free payments for orders from $35 to $50 USD, and four biweekly interest free payments for orders from $50 to $999.99 USD. Monthly payments are for orders from $150 to $30,000 USD. Those monthly orders are interest bearing from 0 to 36% APR where available, and they can be 3, 6, 12, 18, or 24 months depending on the amount. If the order is over $20,000 USD, Shopify's example says you pay the part above $20,000 up front. An order of $25,000 USD would be $5,000 up front and $20,000 split into equal monthly payments. That example is Shopify's, not a fee added by your bank.
In Canada the page lists the same biweekly bands in Canadian dollars: two payments from $35 to $50 CAD, and four payments from $50 to $999.99 CAD. Monthly payments run from $150 to $30,000 CAD, interest bearing from 0 to 31.99% APR where available, for 3, 6, 12, 18, or 24 months, and a down payment may be required. Over $20,000 CAD, the page uses the same style of example: $25,000 CAD would be $5,000 up front and $20,000 in monthly payments. APR and the down payment rule can change. Read the checkout screen before you accept the plan.
How the later charges show up
You pay the first installment at checkout. Shopify says the remaining payments are charged to the card on the schedule, and that you get an email before each one. A later line is the next installment, not a new order, if the amount matches the schedule. A return of the order is handled by the store and by Shop Pay, not by deleting the line yourself. If you do not recognize the store, use the SP * guide to read a Shopify Payments purchase, and how to cancel a subscription only if the charge is a plan that renews. An installment schedule is not the same thing as a monthly subscription.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the card company, and it does not cancel a card or a purchase.
Questions
- Is Shop Pay Installments the same as SP *?
- No. SP * is the label Shopify documents for a store that uses Shopify Payments. The installments help page does not print one required card code. Use the store name and the amount.
- Are the biweekly payments interest free?
- The help page says the two payment and four payment biweekly options are interest free, inside the order amounts it lists. Monthly plans can include interest. The US monthly range on that page is 0 to 36% APR. The Canada monthly range is 0 to 31.99% APR.
- Can a Canadian order use Shop Pay Installments?
- Yes, when the checkout is a domestic Canadian order in Canadian dollars, with Canadian billing, shipping, and payment details, inside the amounts on the help page.
