How to get a Desjardins NSF fee refunded
Desjardins's service fees PDF, effective 12 March 2026, prints $10.00 for a cheque or pre-authorized payment without funds. The statement shows it as Returned item charges. The PDF does not print a two-day cap. Asking the caisse to reverse the fee is a request. Desjardins can say no.

The $10.00 returned item charge
Opened 20 October 2026. The line is under insufficient funds: cheque or pre-authorized payment without funds (returned cheque charges), $10.00. The footnote says the transaction is indicated as Returned item charges on the account statement. The comparison is Overdraft and NSF fees by bank (2026). The monthly plan is on how to waive a Desjardins monthly fee.
The PDF does not print a rule that skips the fee when the shortfall is under $10, and it does not print a once-in-two-business-days cap. Those cells are not published.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank, and it does not move the money.
The overdraft transfer is separate
The same table prints an overdraft as a caisse transfer of $5.00, with an annual interest rate of 21% calculated daily. The footnote says an overdraft is when the account is overdrawn because a cheque or pre-authorized payment was made without enough funds, and the caisse may, at its discretion, advance the money. That $5.00 transfer is not the $10.00 returned item charge.
What to say
Use the number on the statement. "Hello. I am calling about one returned item charge. The date is [date]. The amount is $10.00. I am asking you to review the fee and reverse it."
Then wait. If the answer is yes, ask when the credit will show. If the answer is no, ask for the complaint steps. Do not quote a cap from another bank. How to ask your bank to refund a fee is the general page.
What this page does not add
There is no sentence on the PDF opened today that says a deposit the next business day refunds the $10.00. What a Canadian NSF fee is is the federal description. It does not replace the Desjardins PDF, and it does not require the caisse to remove the fee.
