External ACH transfer fees at major US banks
An external transfer moves money between your account at one bank and an account at another US bank, usually through ACH. It is not a wire, and it is not Zelle. Four large banks print no fee for that consumer transfer. The other bank can still charge. A failed transfer can be a separate fee. Figures can change.

Chase and Wells Fargo
Opened 19 October 2026. Chase's external transfer page answers the fee question in one line: Chase does not charge a fee. Your other bank may charge a fee to move money to Chase, so check with that bank before you start. Chase says a transfer to or from a non Chase account typically takes 2 to 3 business days. The limit is shown when you schedule the transfer. Chase does not print one public dollar cap on that page.
Wells Fargo's online banking fee schedule lists Bank to Bank Transfers for consumer and business accounts at a Wells Fargo fee of none. The same block says setup is required, verification may take 1 to 3 business days, and you should ask the other US institution about any fee it charges. Wells Fargo says wires, Zelle, and Bill Pay are different services on that page. Do not read the bank to bank line as a wire price. US wire transfer fees is the wire page.
Bank of America
Bank of America's Online Banking Service Agreement prints a table for ACH and wire transfers. For a consumer, Next Business Day ACH outbound is $0.00, with a $1,000 sending limit per transaction on that row. Next Business Day ACH inbound for a consumer is $0.00, with a $1,000 receiving limit. Three Business Day ACH inbound for a consumer is also $0.00, with a $1,000 receiving limit. Cutoff on those ACH rows is 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
The $1.00 Three Business Day ACH outbound row on that table is labeled Small Business, not consumer. The $5.00 Next Business Day ACH outbound fee on the same table is the small business column. Do not apply either number to a personal account. Footnote 5 says you may not be eligible for Three Business Day ACH at all. A same day domestic wire outbound is $30.00 for a consumer on that table. That wire is not the ACH transfer. For ACH questions the agreement lists 800.432.1000. If the statement shows a fee, write the date and the amount and ask which row it came from.
Ally, and the banks this page does not price
Ally's transfers FAQ says Ally does not charge a fee to transfer money from or to your accounts at another institution. The same answer says a $30 returned ACH fee may apply for a failed transaction. That $30 is not the price of a transfer that goes through. Ask the other bank whether it charges. An outgoing domestic wire is a different line on that FAQ, $20, and Ally says it does not send international wires. Do not file a wire under this ACH fee.
This page does not state an external transfer dollar for Capital One or for Citi. Those public pages were not used for a fee amount here. If your statement is one of those banks, use the fee schedule in the account and the number on the statement. A transfer to someone else's account can also be Zelle or a wire, which are on what a Zelle line means and incoming wire fees in the US. An ACH debit a company pulls from you is ACH debit on a statement, which is the other direction.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the card company, and it does not cancel a card or a purchase.
Questions
- Does Chase charge for an external transfer?
- Chase's external transfer page says Chase does not charge a fee. The other bank may charge. A typical transfer to or from a non Chase account takes 2 to 3 business days. A wire is a different service.
- Is Bank of America's $1 ACH fee for a personal account?
- On the service agreement opened 19 October 2026, the $1.00 Three Business Day ACH outbound row is labeled Small Business. The consumer next business day ACH rows, in and out, are $0.00. A same day domestic wire on that table is $30.00 and is not the ACH fee.
- What is Ally's $30 ACH fee?
- Ally says transfers to and from accounts at other institutions have no Ally fee. A $30 returned ACH fee may apply when a transaction fails. That is not the fee for a transfer that completes.
- Why is Capital One or Citi missing?
- This page only prints a dollar that was on the bank's own public page. Capital One and Citi external transfer prices were not taken from those pages here. Use the schedule in your account.
