What a CardPointe charge means
A CardPointe charge is a card payment processed through the CardPointe gateway, part of Fiserv. CardPointe does not print one prefix for every merchant. When custom descriptors are configured, the statement can show a short merchant name, a product name, and a phone number.

What the line is
Opened 20 October 2026. CardPointe's gateway API says you can send custom identifying information about a merchant, such as a business name or a phone number, or a custom product name, in an authorization request, and that this appears on buyers' credit and debit card statements. The merchant name field is 12 characters. The product name field is 12 characters. The phone field is 10 digits, written as ten numbers with no spaces. The page's own phone example for that field is 8005551313.
The same page says to see a salesperson for feature availability and merchant configuration, and to add the fields only once they are configured. A shop that has not turned this on will not grow a 12 character name out of nothing. The pages opened here do not print a required prefix such as CARDCONNECT* or FISERV*.
An example array on that page uses ABC Company as the custom merchant and a dashed phone in a general user field. The custom phone field itself is 10 numeric characters. Do not expect the dashes from the general example to be a second rule. Read the name and the digits that are actually on your statement.
How to match it to a purchase
Twelve characters is a short name. Search the first word, then the amount and the date. The product field, if the bank printed it, is the second clue. The 10 digit phone is a customer service number for that charge, not a code to type into the bank.
CardPointe is used by US merchants. The API page does not print a Canada-only descriptor. A Canadian card can still show a US shop's CardPointe line. Use the name on the line in either country.
A receipt the shop printed is a different object. CardPointe's receipt fields include the doing-business-as name and the address for the paper or screen receipt. Those receipt fields are not the statement descriptor. Match the statement to the receipt, and expect the statement to be shorter.
If you do not recognize it
If the date and the amount do not match a receipt, an email, or a purchase someone on the card made, it may be a charge you did not allow. In the United States, use dispute a charge in the US. In Canada, use dispute a charge in Canada. A name you still cannot place is on unknown charge on a statement. The code list is on statement codes.
A shop line that uses a star instead is on Elavon. Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines so you can match a short name to a date and an amount. It does not call the bank, and it does not dispute a charge.
Questions
- Does CardPointe print CARDCONNECT* or FISERV*?
- The gateway page does not print those prefixes. It says a configured merchant name of 12 characters, a product name of 12 characters, and a 10 digit phone can appear on the card statement.
- Why is the name so short?
- CardPointe limits the custom merchant field and the custom product field to 12 characters each. The bank can show still less.
- What is the phone number for?
- CardPointe says the custom phone is identifying information that appears on the card statement. The field is 10 digits. The page's example is 8005551313.
- Who do I dispute it with?
- Match the short name, the product, and the amount first. If nobody allowed the charge, dispute it with the card issuer.
