How to stop a recurring invoice charge
By Karla CastroUpdated October 30, 2026
A recurring invoice charges again on a schedule. Stopping the next one means cancelling with the company that sends the invoice, or taking away permission for the automatic payment. Deleting an app, or letting a card expire, does not always stop it. Store subscriptions use the same idea, on how to cancel a subscription.
Cancel with the company on the invoice
Write the printed name, the date, and the amount. Open that company's account and cancel there, or reply to the invoice and ask them to stop future bills. Say whether you are ending the service or only changing how you pay. Ending the payment does not erase a bill you still owe.
If Apple, Google Play, or PayPal is the biller, use their cancel steps on how to cancel a subscription. A charge that started after a trial is on charged after a free trial. A name that repeats about once a month is on recurring payment on a statement.
If the invoice still posts
After you cancel, a charge for time you already paid can still be valid. The next period should not. If another invoice posts after you took permission away, ask the company for a refund of that extra charge, then tell the bank or card company. A second copy of one invoice is on how to refund a duplicate invoice charge.
A new card number is not a reliable stop. Some companies receive updated card details and keep billing. Ask the card issuer if you want to opt out of those updates. Finding who the short name belongs to is on how to identify an unknown invoice charge.

Questions
- Does closing the card stop the invoice?
- Not always. The company may receive a new card number from the issuer and keep charging. Cancel with the company that sends the invoice.
- Is a recurring invoice the same as a bank fee?
- No. An invoice comes from a company you pay. A monthly account fee comes from the bank. Keep those lines on separate lists.
- Does Expenvo cancel the invoice?
- No. Expenvo lists repeating charges. It does not cancel them, and it does not count them as savings.
