TD foreign transaction fee is 2.5%

By Karla CastroUpdated October 31, 2026

TD charges 2.5% on a foreign currency transaction after the payment network converts it, and 2.5% again on a refund or credit of that transaction. That sentence is on the First Class Travel Visa Infinite application. The TD U.S. Dollar Visa is billed in U.S. dollars and avoids that 2.5% on purchases in the U.S.

What the application prints

Opened 31 October 2026. The First Class Travel Visa Infinite application says the payment network converts the foreign currency amount to the currency of the account. The conversion date is no earlier than the transaction date and no later than the date the network processes it. On top of that rate, TD charges a foreign currency fee of 2.5% of the transaction amount after conversion, on the date the transaction posts. A refund or credit of a foreign currency transaction is also charged 2.5% of the refund or credit after conversion, on the date it posts.

The line on the statement is usually the purchase in the currency of the account. The 2.5% is part of that posted amount. It is not always a second line that says foreign transaction fee. Match the date and the amount to the receipt before you treat a purchase as a bank fee.

This application is one TD card. Do not copy 2.5% onto a TD card whose own information box you have not read.

How to avoid the 2.5%

TD's U.S. Dollar Visa welcome guide says you avoid the standard 2.5% Foreign Exchange Conversion Fee when you use that card in the U.S. Purchases are billed in U.S. dollars, and you pay the account in U.S. dollars. That is a different card from the First Class Travel Visa Infinite.

A shop that offers to charge you in Canadian dollars is converting the price itself. That is dynamic currency conversion, not this TD fee. The TD fee applies when the network converts a foreign currency transaction.

Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank, and it does not move the money.
