Venmo charges on a bank statement
A Venmo line on a bank statement is not always a purchase. Venmo's own help, opened 17 October 2026, separates a standard transfer to your bank, an instant transfer, and a charge on a card you did not connect yourself.

Money leaving Venmo for your bank
Venmo's page on bank transfer problems says a standard transfer can take up to three business days to arrive. It says standard transfers are sent as ACH deposits with the note VENMO-0 CASHOUT, and that they may be back dated up to two days earlier on your statement. If the date on the bank line is a day or two before you tapped transfer, that note is the explanation Venmo prints. It is still the same transfer if the amount matches.
You can cancel or speed up a standard transfer yourself, but only within the first hour, while it is pending. Venmo says to look for Get it faster or Cancel it under the transfer details on the Me tab. After that hour, if you already have a success confirmation, Venmo says the transfer will be sent to the bank or card you selected and can no longer be canceled.
Instant transfers are different. Venmo says they may show as pending and can take around 30 minutes. On the bank statement they appear as an original credit transaction, also called an OCT, or as a real time payment. They are not an ACH deposit and they are not a direct deposit. If the bank cannot find an ACH for an instant transfer, that is expected. Ask the bank to look for an original credit or a real time payment, and check the last four digits of the card or account Venmo shows.
The full list of these short names is on statement codes. Zelle on a statement is a bank to bank payment, not a Venmo transfer.
The instant transfer fee
Venmo says instant transfer fees are deducted from each transfer amount. For each transaction the minimum fee is $0.25 and the maximum fee is $25. The amount that lands in the bank is the transfer minus that fee, so it can be smaller than the number you typed. Venmo says you can see the actual transfer amount, and that the fee was applied, in your personal feed in the app. If you need to transfer less than $0.25, Venmo says the standard bank transfer option is free to use.
A standard transfer that is still missing after Venmo marks it completed is a question for the bank, with the note VENMO-0 CASHOUT and the amount after any choice you made. Venmo says that if the transfer is neither in the app nor at the bank, it may still be processing.
A Venmo charge and you have no Venmo account
Venmo's page on unknown charges says a charge from Venmo when you do not have a Venmo account can mean an authorized user of that bank account, debit card, or credit card has the card on their Venmo account. Someone you allowed to use the card can pay with Venmo, and the line shows on your statement.
If you confirm the payments were not authorized by you or by someone with permission, Venmo says there is no way for Venmo to determine how the information was breached. The steps Venmo lists are to update your online banking and financial services passwords, then contact the bank or card company, file a dispute, and request a new bank account number or card number. Venmo says the bank should walk you through the dispute, reimburse you, and file a claim with Venmo separately. Venmo says it cannot take direct action on any Venmo account other than your own.
Venmo also says that because of its privacy policy it cannot give you information about a Venmo account that is not yours. If you want action against a person you suspect used your information, Venmo says to file a police report and have law enforcement submit a request. The dispute path for a card or debit charge you did not allow is dispute a charge in the US.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines so you can match a short name to a date and an amount. It does not call the bank, and it does not dispute a charge.
