WaFd Bank NSF fee

WaFd Bank does not sell a traditional overdraft service. The consumer fee schedule still prints a $30 insufficient funds charge when it pays an item, and the same $30 when it returns one. ATM and everyday debit card transactions are no fee. The wider table is [US overdraft fees by bank](/guides/us-overdraft-fees-by-bank).

The $30 fee

Opened 21 October 2026. The dollars are on the WaFd schedule of consumer fees, effective 1 August 2026, and on the overdraft services page. Insufficient Funds Charge (Returned) is $30 per presentment. Insufficient Funds Charge (Paid) is $30 per presentment. The daily maximum is 3 per day or $90. ATM or everyday debit card transactions are no fee.

The schedule says a presentment means items such as checks, online bill payment, and electronic ACH transactions. The overdraft page says that without protection, a check or ACH that does not clear is returned and the $30 nonsufficient funds fee is charged. A debit card purchase without enough money is declined, and no charge is assessed. A transfer from another WaFd account has no setup fee and no transfer fee. An overdraft line of credit has a $43 application fee and no transfer fee.

The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not call the institution.

How to avoid it

The paid $30 and the returned $30 are the same dollar on two rows. Do not add them together for one item. The cap is three fees or $90 in a day, whichever way you read the schedule line.

A linked WaFd deposit account can cover a check, automatic payment, or recurring payment when that account has the money, and the transfer fee is no fee. The line of credit is a separate application. Its $43 fee is for the application, not for each transfer. Everyday debit card purchases are declined instead of paid into overdraft, so they are not the $30 row.
