How to waive the monthly fee at Fifth Third
Fifth Third's Momentum Checking page says there is no monthly service charge. The same page still prints ATM and international fees. This guide uses Momentum only. The Essential Checking URL did not open.

The monthly service charge
Opened 17 October 2026. Fifth Third's Momentum Checking page says the account charges no fees in this sense: there is no monthly service charge, no minimum deposit needed to open, and no minimum balance required. Footnote 1 says there is no minimum deposit to open, and that the account must be funded within 90 days or it may be closed.
A separate Essential Checking address on the same site returned an error page on 17 October 2026. This guide does not copy a fee for Essential Checking. If your statement names a different Fifth Third account, use that account's own page.
Fees the same page still prints
The notice on the Momentum page is not a promise that every line is $0. It lists a non-Fifth Third ATM fee of $3.50 per transaction. Express Banking and ABLE are $3.00. An international point of sale or ATM transaction is 3.00% plus a currency conversion fee of 0.20%. An international ATM withdrawal is $5.00. A non-Fifth Third cash advance on the debit card is the greater of $5 or 3%, up to $10.
A $5 dormant account monthly fee applies if there are no deposits or withdrawals for 12 months. Fifth Third says you avoid that fee with at least one transaction a year. That dormant line is not the monthly service charge.
Extra Time and Early Pay
Extra Time, on that page, gives you until midnight Eastern Time the next business day to bring the available balance to at least $0. Early Pay says eligible direct deposits can arrive up to two days early and fee-free. Direct deposits over $10,000 post on the scheduled payday.
If the statement shows a monthly service charge on an account named Momentum Checking, that does not match the FAQ on this page. An ATM line, an international line, or a dormant line can still be there. Write the date, the printed name, and the amount. US monthly checking fees and US overdraft fees by bank cover other banks.
What to ask
Call the number on the statement. Ask which Momentum rule the line used. Ask Fifth Third to review it or remove it. They can say no. A yearly total you add up yourself is arithmetic. It is not a quote from Fifth Third.
