How to waive the monthly fee at M&T Bank
M&T prints four checking monthly fees on its compare page. One is always $0. The other three are $0 only when the waiver on that row is met. A zip code on the site can change the products, so these figures are the page opened without a zip.

The four monthly fees
Opened 17 October 2026. The amounts are from M&T's compare checking page, opened without a zip code. A local page can differ. EZChoice lists a monthly fee of $0. MyWay Banking lists $4.95, waived with one or more transactions each monthly service charge cycle. M&T counts a deposit, a withdrawal, or any debit payment.
The compare table shows MyChoice Plus as 14.95 without a dollar sign in that cell. The MyChoice Plus page prints $14.95 a month. That page says the fee is $0 with an average daily balance of $2,500 or more, or direct deposits totaling $1,500 or more, per monthly service charge cycle. MyChoice Premium lists $24.95, or $0 with an average daily balance of $7,500 or more, or combined daily average balances of $25,000 or more in eligible accounts.
Who can open the account
The compare page says you must be 18. It says a debit card arrives in 7 to 10 business days. The phone on M&T pages used here is 1-800-724-2440. Empty cells on the compare table are blank on purpose. This guide does not turn a blank cell into a fee of $0.
Match the product name on the statement to the row. A $14.95 line on EZChoice does not match the $0 that row prints. A $14.95 line on MyChoice Plus can be the fee when neither the $2,500 average daily balance nor the $1,500 in direct deposits was met.
If you do not recognize the amount
Write the date, the account name, and the amount. Ask M&T which cycle it used and which waiver it checked. The bank can say no. US monthly checking fees lists other banks. US overdraft fees by bank is a different charge.
