Banner Bank overdraft fee

The $30 fee
Opened 21 October 2026. The dollar is on the Banner Bank schedule of fees. The page says the schedule is effective 1 February 2024. Personal accounts list Overdraft Item, based on available balance, at $30.00.
The footnote on that page says paid transactions that leave an end-of-day overdrawn balance of $5.00 or less are not charged a fee. Banner will not charge more than 4 Overdraft Item Fees in one business day. A June 2023 notice of fee changes says the Returned Item Fee was eliminated for consumer checking and savings accounts. This page does not treat that eliminated return fee as a current $30 charge.

How to avoid it
The $30 is for an item Banner pays into overdraft. The schedule uses available balance, and the footnote explains that phrase by pointing at the deposit account agreement rather than restating it. The $5 end-of-day cushion and the four-fee cap are on the fee schedule itself.
Banner's Digital Account guide says that account declines a transaction when there is not enough money, and that Banner does not impose a fee in that case. A merchant can still charge its own fee. That is a different account from one that has Overdraft Item fees.
