What an Etsy or eBay charge means

An Etsy or eBay line can be a purchase you made, or selling fees billed to your card. Those are different amounts. The fee pages opened 17 October 2026 do not print one required card code. A purchase usually includes the brand. A seller fee charge is the amount due, not the price of the item the buyer paid.

Buyer purchase or seller bill

If you bought something, match the statement to the order email. The amount should be the total you paid, including shipping and tax if those were in the checkout. If you sell, the card charge is often smaller. It is the fees or the negative balance, not the item price. A month with sales may show no card charge at all, because the fees came out of the payout. A month with fees and no payout can charge the card on file. Unknown charge on a statement is the checklist if the name is unclear. A payment company in the middle is on PayPal on a statement.

What Etsy charges a seller

Etsy's Fee Basics article says the listing fee is a flat $0.20 USD per listing, charged whether or not the item sells, and added to the payment account when you publish. An auto-renewed listing is charged that same $0.20 USD when it is purchased and set to renew. A multi-quantity purchase adds another $0.20 USD for each additional item from that listing. A custom listing is also the $0.20 USD standard fee. The transaction fee is 6.5 percent of the total order amount in the listing currency, including shipping and gift wrap if you charge for those. It posts to the payment account and is separate from payment processing.

Payment processing is a rate plus a flat fee, and it varies by the country of the bank account. It is taken from the sale, including shipping and any sales tax, and it is deducted before the deposit. On the processing fee table opened 17 October 2026, the United States is 3 percent plus $0.25 USD. Canada is 3 percent plus $0.25 CAD for domestic orders or orders from the US, and 4 percent plus $0.25 CAD for international orders. Other countries are different rows on that table. Do not use the US row for a Canadian bank account. If you refund a sale, Etsy says the processing fee is credited proportionally.

Seller fees come out of Etsy Payments sales first. If the balance is negative at the end of the month, you have an amount due. Etsy's pay your fees article says any amount due can be paid from the first day of the next month. Auto-billing payments are charged on the 1st. Manual payments can be made from the 1st through the 15th. You can pay with a debit card, a credit card, a prepaid card, or PayPal. A US shop enrolled in auto-billing is charged on the 1st or when it passes its fee threshold. That card charge is the amount due. It is not a new order. What eBay charges a seller

eBay's US selling fees article says there are two main fees: an insertion fee when you create a listing, and a final value fee when the item sells. Most categories, including eBay Motors parts and accessories, get the first 250 listings free each month, then $0.35 per listing. Insertion fees are non-refundable if the item does not sell. They are charged per listing and per extra category, and again when you relist. A store subscription can change the zero insertion allowance. The article says to read that store rule. This guide does not copy a store plan price the basic table did not print.

The final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus a per order fee. For orders of $10.00 or less, the per order fee is $0.30. For orders over $10.00, it is $0.40. The total amount of the sale includes the item price, handling, shipping you collected, sales tax, and other applicable fees. An order is any number of items the same buyer checks out together with the same shipping method. In most categories the percentage is 13.6 percent on the total up to $7,500 per item, then 2.35 percent on the portion over $7,500. Books, movies, and music are 15.3 percent up to $7,500, then 2.35 percent. Coins are 13.25 percent up to $7,500. Bullion is 13.6 percent if the sale is $7,500 or less, and 7 percent if it is over $7,500. Handbags start at 15 percent up to $2,000, then 9 percent. Other rows differ. Use the row for the category you listed.

eBay says that when it gives you a free shipping label under Authenticity Guarantee, it collects a flat shipping charge from the buyer and does not charge a final value fee on that shipping. Seller charges on your card are fees or an amount due. They are separate from a buyer's purchase of an item. The article does not print one required card descriptor. Match eBay to the date. If you also buy on eBay, keep the order receipt next to the fee invoice so you do not mix them.
