What a McAfee charge means on your statement
A McAfee line is usually security software that renews. McAfee's license says the renewal price might not match what you paid the first time, and that McAfee emails you and then charges the card within 30 days before the term ends. Turn renewal off early enough, or ask for a refund inside the window the license prints. This page does not invent a plan price.

What the line is
McAfee's license agreement, opened 17 October 2026, says that if you bought the software from McAfee and not from a third party, a paid subscription renews at the end of its term unless you opted out. McAfee emails you in advance, then charges your payment type within 30 days before the subscription is due to end. The amount is the price of the software or services at the time of renewal, which might be different from the amount you originally paid. If the product was renamed or replaced, McAfee says it will provide the new offering at no more than its renewal price, if the features are reasonably comparable. If automatic renewal does not apply where you live, McAfee says it will say so at purchase.
The same license does not print one required antivirus descriptor. A different McAfee product, the safe card, does print a prefix. Transactions on the funding source for that product are prefixed with MCFE, and the real store name is hidden. That prefix is the safe card, not proof that every McAfee antivirus bill says MCFE. If your line says McAfee, start with the subscription. If it says MCFE, read the safe card section of the license before you assume it is the antivirus renewal.
A plan billed by Apple, Google, or a retailer is not the My Account renewal described above. Those charges are on APPLE.COM/BILL or GOOGLE*. Norton is a different company, on what a Norton charge means.
How to stop the next renewal
The license says you can turn off automatic renewal at any time by logging in to My Account or by contacting Customer Service. Do it more than 30 days before the term expires so the payment type is not charged for the next renewal. Turning renewal off can also end extra benefits that McAfee offers only while renewal is on. You can still use the software until the end of the period you already paid for, if you do not qualify for a refund.
The support article titled turn off auto-renewal describes the same idea: turning it off stops the subscription from renewing for another term. The article page opened on 17 October 2026 showed the summary and not a longer click list, so this guide does not invent extra button names. Use My Account, or contact McAfee.
Refund windows in the license
In the first 30 days of your purchase, the license says you can cancel for any reason and ask for a refund of the amount you paid. If you forget to turn off renewal, you have 60 days after you are charged to request a refund and cancel. The license says the refund policy is part of the terms, and that extra remedies may exist in the country where you bought the software. It does not print a success rate.
A charge you did not authorize is a different request from a plan you bought and forgot. US card disputes are on dispute a charge in the US. Canadian card disputes are on dispute a charge in Canada. Stopping a renewal does not, by itself, cancel a debt you still owe if a contract says you owe it.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo groups the same merchant when a similar amount shows up again about a week, a month, or a year apart, and it lists a line that already says membership or subscription. You can also mark a name yourself. It does not cancel the plan, and it does not count the charge as savings. One month can miss a yearly renewal. The longer checklist is find subscriptions from a statement.
Questions
- Can the McAfee renewal cost more than the first term?
- The license says the renewal amount is the price at the time of renewal, which might be different from the amount you originally paid. It does not print a sample dollar.
- When should I turn renewal off?
- The license says to turn it off more than 30 days before the term expires, because McAfee charges within 30 days before the end. If you miss that, you have 60 days after the charge to request a refund and cancel.
- Does MCFE mean the antivirus renewal?
- In the license, MCFE is the prefix for McAfee safe card transactions. The antivirus renewal section does not print that prefix. Read the rest of the line before you decide.
