Citizens overdraft fee

Citizens prints the overdraft dollar on its overdraft choices page, not on the One Deposit monthly-fee page. This page is the $35 fee, the $5 Overdraft Pass, and Peace of Mind. The monthly fee is on [how to waive a Citizens monthly fee](/guides/waive-citizens-monthly-fee). The wider table is [US overdraft fees by bank](/guides/us-overdraft-fees-by-bank).

The $35 fee

Opened 21 October 2026. The figures are from Citizens' overdraft choices page. An Overdraft Fee is $35 per item the bank pays. Citizens limits that to 5 Overdraft Fees on any one day, up to $175. If a transaction is $5 or less, or the overdrawn balance is $5 or less, Citizens says it will not charge the $35 fee. That rule is the $5 Overdraft Pass, and checking and money market accounts come with it. No enrollment is required.

Citizens may choose to pay the transaction. Payment is at the bank's discretion. The page says you can enroll or leave Debit Card Overdraft Coverage by phone at 1-800-922-9999, in online or mobile banking, or at a branch. The personal deposit account fees PDF, marked Rev Oct 2026, is the source already used for the monthly fee. Use the overdraft page for the $35 line.

The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not call the institution.

Peace of Mind and the accounts with no coverage

Peace of Mind reverses overdraft fees if you deposit enough to bring the available balance positive, not counting the overdraft fees, by 10:00 PM ET the following business day. Cash, a Citizens check, or an electronic funds transfer is generally available the same day. A check drawn on another bank can still be held, so a deposit by the cutoff is not always available that day. If the account already has a linked overdraft transfer plan, those transfers apply before Peace of Mind. Plan transfer fees are not eligible for Peace of Mind rebates.

A savings overdraft transfer plan has no fee. An overdraft line of credit has a $30 annual fee plus a $12 transfer fee each day a transfer occurs, and the page prints a 21% APR on the outstanding balance. There is no transfer fee on a day when every overdraft transaction is $5 or less, or the plan transfer is $5 or less.

Student Checking and Citizens EverValue Checking do not come with standard overdraft coverage. If the available funds are not there, the transaction is declined or returned unpaid. Those accounts are not eligible for Debit Card Overdraft Coverage. You can still set up an overdraft plan from savings or a line of credit, and the page says that plan has no fee.
