How to waive a Citizens monthly account fee

You get the published rules for One Deposit Checking from Citizens, the words to look for on a statement, and a short list of questions for the phone. Asking Citizens to remove a fee already charged is a request. Citizens can say no. This page does not promise a waiver.

One Deposit Checking

These amounts are in US dollars. The account page is One Deposit Checking. The fee table is the personal deposit account fees PDF, marked Rev Oct 2026. The account page told a visitor outside the bank's area that the product was not offered in that location, and it still printed the $9.99 fee for the Rhode Island view.

The account page says there is no minimum balance and a $9.99 monthly maintenance fee that takes one deposit each statement period. The PDF says the monthly fee is $9.99, the minimum opening deposit is any amount, and the fee is waived if at least one deposit posts before the statement period ends. The PDF says the fee, when it is charged, posts on the last day of the statement period.

Paperless eStatements are no charge and need online banking. A paper statement is $3 a month. The PDF says that paper fee is not charged when any account signer is under 18, or 65 or older, based on the date of birth on file. Citizens ATMs are $0. A non Citizens ATM is $3 for a withdrawal, a transfer, a balance inquiry, or a mini statement where one is offered. The ATM owner may add a fee. One Deposit Checking is not in the list of accounts that skip that $3 fee.

Find the fee on the statement

Look for monthly maintenance fee, paper statement, or ATM. Write the date, the printed name, and the amount. A deposit that posts after the statement period ends does not help the period that already closed. The PDF explains that the posting time depends on how you deposited.

A $9.99 fee charged every month for 12 months is $119.88. The result is arithmetic. It is not a quote from Citizens, and it is not money Citizens has agreed to return.

What to ask Citizens

Use the phone number on the statement if it is printed there. Ask whether one deposit posted before the statement period ended, and whether the line is the $9.99 maintenance fee, the $3 paper statement, or the $3 non Citizens ATM fee. Then ask Citizens to review it. They can say no.

Expenvo can list a bank fee that is already on a statement. It does not call Citizens.

Questions

What deposit waives the $9.99 fee?
Citizens says at least one deposit of any amount has to post before the statement period ends. The PDF says when a deposit posts depends on the method and the time of day.
Is the paper statement free?
The fee PDF says a paperless eStatement is no charge. A paper statement is $3 a month, and it is not charged when any signer is under 18 or 65 or older.
Will Citizens remove a fee it already charged if I ask?
They might, and they might not. Asking is a request. Nothing on this page says Citizens has to waive a fee already on the statement.
