Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo monthly fees
These amounts are for the named account on each bank's own fee page. They can change. A different account at the same bank can cost a different amount. Your account agreement controls the fee on your account, not this page.
How to use these numbers
Read the account name on your statement before you compare it with a row below. If the name is different, these figures may not be your fee. Other charges, such as ATM, wire, and overdraft fees, are separate. They are on the same bank fee pages linked at the bottom.
To turn a monthly fee into a 12 month cost, use the bank fee calculator. A $15 monthly fee is $180 over 12 months if it is charged every month. That math is not a refund. How to find the fee line shows where it sits on a US statement.
Chase Total Checking
Chase lists a Monthly Service Fee of $15, or $0 if you meet one of the following in each monthly statement period. The options are on the Chase Total Checking fee page.
One: $500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits. Chase describes those as payments from an employer or a government entity, such as benefits or a tax refund, made through the ACH network, Real Time Payments (RTP), the FedNow Service, or a third party that pays your debit card on the Visa or Mastercard network. Chase says Zelle, cash, checks, wire transfers, and interest payments do not count. That definition is on the Chase checking comparison.
Two: a balance of $1,500 or more at the beginning of each day. Three: an average beginning day balance of $5,000 or more in this account, or combined with linked qualifying personal deposits or investments. Four: link this account to a qualifying checking account. Chase lists which accounts qualify on that same checking page. If none of the four is met, Chase says the fee is $15.
Bank of America Advantage Plus Banking
The Bank of America personal schedule of fees lists a monthly maintenance fee of $12.00 for Advantage Plus Banking. The minimum to open that account is $100.00. The schedule says the account does not pay interest.
You avoid the $12.00 fee during a statement cycle if you meet one of these. One: at least one qualifying direct deposit of $250 or more. For this account, Bank of America says a qualifying direct deposit is regular monthly income, such as salary, pension, or Social Security, sent by the employer or other payer with the account and routing numbers you gave them. Other transfers and deposits do not qualify. Two: a minimum daily balance of $1,500 or more. Bank of America says that is the lowest balance during the statement cycle, so the balance must not fall below $1,500. Three: an owner is enrolled in BofA Rewards and qualifies for the Preferred Plus, Preferred Honors, or Premier tier.
Wells Fargo Everyday Checking
Wells Fargo lists a $15 monthly service fee for Everyday Checking on its Everyday Checking page. The same page says you can avoid it with one of the following in each fee period.
One: $500 or more in total qualifying electronic deposits. The page names that amount and says which deposits count. Read that section before you rely on a deposit. Two: a $1,500 minimum daily balance. Three: $5,000 or more in qualifying deposit balances, investment balances, or both. Four: the primary account owner is 17 to 24 years old. Wells Fargo says that when the primary owner turns 25, age no longer avoids the fee. Five: a qualifying monthly non civilian military direct deposit with the Wells Fargo Worldwide Military Banking program.
Wells Fargo says the fee period is the period used to calculate the monthly service fee, and that the details are on the Monthly Service Fee Summary on your statement. A fee period is not always a calendar month.
Questions
- Are these fees the same for every account at that bank?
- No. Chase Total Checking, Bank of America Advantage Plus Banking, and Wells Fargo Everyday Checking are specific accounts. A different account at the same bank can have a different monthly fee.
- Does meeting one condition always make the fee $0?
- Each bank above says the monthly fee is $0 when you meet one of the listed conditions for that account. You do not need all of them. If you meet none, the bank's page lists the monthly fee as $15 at Chase, $12.00 at Bank of America for Advantage Plus, or $15 at Wells Fargo Everyday Checking.
- Does a Zelle payment count as a Chase qualifying electronic deposit?
- Chase says Zelle, cash, checks, wire transfers, and interest payments do not count as qualifying electronic deposits for the Total Checking monthly service fee.
- Can Expenvo tell me my fee will be waived next month?
- No. Expenvo can show a fee that is already on a statement. It does not know whether you will meet a bank's waiver rule next month.
