How to waive a Citi monthly fee

You get the monthly service fees Citi prints for two checking accounts, the ways those pages say the fee can be $0, and a short list of questions. Asking Citi to remove a fee already charged is a request. Citi can say no. This page does not promise a waiver.

What this fee is

A monthly service fee is a charge for the checking account. It is not a store purchase and not a subscription. How fees show on a US statement is where that line sits. A US Citi statement stays in USD.

The fees Citi prints

Citi's account comparison lists a monthly service fee of $15 for Regular Checking and $5 for Access Checking when no waiver applies. The same page says each of those fees is waived in a month when the account has $250 or more in direct deposits or other qualifying transactions. It says Access Checking is also waived when an owner is age 23 or younger, effective July 18, 2026, and it points to the Consumer Deposit Account Agreement for that rule.

The comparison says Citi Priority, Citigold, and Citigold Private Client relationship tiers have no monthly service fee. It lists a combined average monthly balance of $0 to $29,999.99 for the everyday tier, $30,000 to $199,999.99 for Citi Priority, and a starting range of $200,000 to $999,999.99 for Citigold, with $180,000 to $999,999.99 to maintain that tier. Citi says a calendar month may not match the statement period. Read the agreement before you treat a deposit as qualifying. This page does not invent a list of deposits the comparison does not spell out.

What to ask

Use the phone number on the statement. Have the date, the fee name, and the amount. Ask whether the account is Regular Checking or Access Checking, and which waiver Citi says applies. Then ask Citi to review the fee or remove it. They can say no.

Questions

Is the Citi monthly fee $15 on every checking account?
No. The comparison lists $15 for Regular Checking and $5 for Access Checking when no waiver applies. Relationship tiers on that page list no monthly service fee.
Will Citi remove a monthly fee it already charged if I ask?
They might, and they might not. Asking is a request. Nothing on this page says the bank has to remove a fee already on the statement.
Can Expenvo tell me the fee will be $0 next month?
No. Expenvo can list a fee that is already on a statement. It does not know whether you will meet the bank's rule in the next period.
Does $250 in any deposit remove the fee?
The comparison says $250 or more in direct deposits or other qualifying transactions. It does not say every deposit counts. The account agreement is the list of what qualifies.
