How to waive a Truist monthly account fee
You get the published rules for Truist One Checking, the words to look for on a statement, and a short list of questions for the phone. Asking Truist to remove a fee already charged is a request. Truist can say no. This page does not promise a waiver.

What this fee is
A monthly account fee is a charge from the bank for the account itself. It is not a store purchase, not a subscription, and not a refund. A refund is money back. It is not a new expense.
Truist sells more than one checking account. Match the account name on your statement to Truist One Checking before you use the figures below. Another Truist account can have a different fee. Your account agreement controls the fee, not this page.
Truist One Checking
These amounts are in US dollars. They come from Truist's Truist One Checking page. Truist marks that page updated as of 14 October 2026. Monthly fees at large US banks lists other checking accounts next to this one.
Truist lists a $50 minimum opening deposit and a $12 monthly maintenance fee, or $0 if the fee is waived. The page says you only need to do one of these: $500 or more in total qualifying direct deposits in the statement cycle, a combined ledger balance of $500 or more in related Truist accounts, a personal Truist credit card, mortgage, or consumer loan including LightStream, a linked small business checking account, or be a student. Truist also says it waives the fee for a primary account owner under 25, or age 62 and older.
The student waiver needs the person listed as the primary owner and an expected graduation date. Truist says that waiver expires on the graduation date given. The under 25 waiver expires on the 25th birthday of the primary account owner. Qualifying direct deposits are electronic ACH credits. Truist says transfers between your own accounts, and deposits at a branch, ATM, online, by mobile, or by mail, do not count.
The same page says Truist One Checking does not charge overdraft fees. Truist defines overdraft related fees there as overdraft fees, returned item fees, negative account balance fees, or overdraft protection transfer fees. That is a different line from the $12 monthly fee. A new client cash offer, when Truist has one, is not this fee.
Find the fee on the statement
Read the account name first. Then look for a line named monthly maintenance fee, monthly service fee, or account fee. Write the date, the printed name, and the amount. A US dollar Truist statement stays in USD. How to read a statement PDF separates fees, purchases, payments, and refunds.
If Truist later credits the fee back, that credit is money returned. It is not a new expense, and it is not a subscription.
A $12 fee charged every month for 12 months is $144. The result is arithmetic. It is not a quote from Truist, and it is not money Truist has agreed to return.
What to ask Truist
Use the phone number on the statement if it is printed there. Have the date, the fee name, and the amount. Ask which checking account is on the statement. Ask which one waiver Truist says you met, and whether a student date or a 25th birthday has already ended the waiver. Then ask Truist to review the fee or remove it. They can say no. This page has no success rate, because a made up rate would be a guess.
If the answer is no, ask what would have to be true next statement cycle for the fee to be $0, and ask for the bank's complaint steps. US bank fees explains that path. Expenvo does not call Truist, and it does not promise the fee will be removed.
Questions
- Does every Truist checking account cost $12 a month?
- No. The $12 figure is the monthly maintenance fee Truist lists for Truist One Checking. Another Truist account can have a different fee. Match the account name on your statement.
- Do I need every waiver at once?
- No. Truist says you only need one of the listed ways. The student waiver and the under 25 waiver each have an end date on the Truist One page.
- Will Truist remove a fee it already charged if I ask?
- They might, and they might not. Asking is a request. Nothing on this page says Truist has to waive a fee already on the statement.
