Coast Capital NSF fee
Coast Capital prints the personal NSF dollar on its service fees page. A returned cheque or pre-authorized payment is $10.00 per account. A business account is a different page. The monthly fee on Free Chequing is on [Coast Capital Free Chequing](/guides/waive-coast-capital-monthly-fee). The wider table is [Canada NSF fees by bank](/guides/canada-nsf-fees-by-bank).

The $10 personal NSF fee
Opened 21 October 2026. The figures are from Coast Capital's service fees page. NSF due to a cheque or a pre-authorized payment returned for insufficient funds is $10.00 per account. The footnote says the account is not charged an NSF fee if it is overdrawn by less than $10. Coast Capital may process or decline those payments. NSF fees are not charged on an account more than once within a 2-business-day period. On a USD account, the NSF charge is presented in US dollars as the $10 Canadian equivalent, and it varies with Coast Capital's exchange rate.
A chargeback, which is a deposited item returned unpaid, is $7.50. That is not the NSF fee on a payment you sent. The Advice Centre number on the page is 1.888.517.7000.
The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not call the institution.
| Line | What the page prints |
|---|---|

| Shortfall under $10 | No NSF fee |
| How often | Not more than once in a 2-business-day period |
| USD account | The $10 Canadian equivalent, in US dollars |
| Chargeback | $7.50 |
| Overdraft protection usage | $5 a month plus 21% interest, in a month you use it |
| Overdrawing without protection | $5 per item plus interest at prime plus 18% |
Overdraft protection is a different line
Overdraft Protection Usage Fee is $5 a month plus interest at 21% per year. The footnote says the fee applies in a month only when a transaction puts you into overdraft or increases the overdraft balance. Later increases in that same statement period do not add another usage fee. Overdrawing savings or chequing without overdraft protection or a line of credit is $5 per item plus interest at prime plus 18% per year. Going over a line of credit or overdraft protection limit is the same $5 per item plus that interest. Overdrawing a US dollar chequing account is $5 per item plus interest at 25.5% per year, which the page says is the Coast Capital US base plus 18%.
The business service fees page prints a different NSF line, $48.00 per item, for a business cheque or pre-authorized payment. Do not use $10 for a business account, and do not use $48 for a personal account. Free Chequing's $0 monthly fee is also a different line.
