The $35 fee
Opened 21 October 2026. The figures are from the First Horizon overdrafts page and the FirstView checking fee guide. The overdraft fee is $35, limited to three per day, for paying overdrafts that result in an overdrawn balance of more than $5. The FirstView guide lists the non-sufficient funds fee as $0.
Checks and automatic bill payments can be paid into overdraft at the bank's discretion, with no separate authorization. ATM and everyday debit card transactions are not paid into overdraft unless you authorize it. The overdrafts page lists 800-382-5465 as one way to give that authorization. The Advantage checking fee guide says its information is accurate as of August 2026 and prints the same $35 and $0 NSF lines.
The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not call the institution.
| Line | What First Horizon prints |
|---|---|
| Paid overdraft | $35 |
| Daily cap | 3 overdraft fees |
| Small overdraft | No fee if the ending overdrawn balance is $5 or less |
| NSF item returned | $0 |
| Overdraft protection transfer | $0 |
How to avoid it
The FirstView guide says there is no overdraft fee on a day when the ending overdrawn balance is $5 or less. It also caps the account at three overdraft fees a day. A transfer from a linked checking, savings, money market, or home equity line is $0 on that guide.
If you do not opt in, ATM and everyday debit card transactions may be declined instead of paid with a fee. You can also tell the bank not to pay any type of item into overdraft. Monthly fee waivers for the checking account are a different page, how to waive a First Horizon monthly fee.
