PenFed NSF fee
PenFed's service fees page lists $30.00 for non-sufficient funds and $10.00 for uncollected funds on a returned ACH, check, or preauthorized debit. It does not print a separate paid overdraft item fee on that page.

The $30 fee
Opened 21 October 2026. The figures are from the PenFed current service fees page. Under returned ACH (originated at another financial institution), check, or preauthorized debit, the page lists non-sufficient funds at $30.00 and uncollected funds (deposits on hold) at $10.00. The same pair is printed for Free Checking, Access America, Complete Access, and PenCheck Plus.
The overdraft options page describes a transfer from a linked Premium Online Savings account with no fee for the transfer, and an overdraft line of credit with no access fee and a fixed 17.99% APR. That page does not add a per-item overdraft dollar on top of those options. This guide does not turn the $30 returned-item line into a paid overdraft fee.
The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not call the institution.
| Line | What PenFed prints |
|---|---|
| Non-sufficient funds, returned ACH, check, or preauthorized debit | $30.00 |
| Uncollected funds, deposits on hold | $10.00 |
| Overdraft transfer from Premium Online Savings | No fee for the transfer |
| Overdraft line of credit | No access fee, fixed 17.99% APR |
How to avoid it
The $30 line is for an item PenFed returns. Keeping enough available money for the ACH, check, or preauthorized debit is what keeps that line off the statement. Uncollected funds at $10.00 is a different reason: a deposit that is still on hold. That is not the same row as the $30 NSF line.
Linking Premium Online Savings covers a checking shortfall without a transfer fee, if that savings account has the money. The line of credit is a credit product, so interest can still apply even though the page says there is no access fee. Statement PDFs are on how to download a PenFed statement.
