How to get an RBC NSF fee refunded
RBC's personal deposit account booklet prints a Non-Sufficient Funds fee of $10.00 each. The footnote says RBC will not impose it more than once within two business days on the same account, and will not impose it if the item would overdraw the account by less than $10. RBC does not print a next-day deposit that refunds the fee after it posts.

The $10.00 fee and the two limits
Opened 20 October 2026. Amounts here are Canadian dollars unless the line says U.S. dollars. The booklet footnote says the fee applies to every presentment or re-presentment, and then states the two limits: not more than once within two business days for the same account, and not if the instrument would overdraw the account by less than $10, or the U.S. dollar equivalent on a U.S. dollar account. A U.S. dollar account is charged in U.S. currency at the $10.00 Canadian equivalent, using RBC's exchange rate. RBC can still reject or return an item on every presentment. The fee cap is separate from that decision. The comparison row is in Canada NSF fees by bank. Day to Day Banking's monthly fee is on how to waive an RBC monthly fee.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank, and it does not move the money.
Overdraft Protection is a different charge
The booklet table prints Overdraft Protection at $5.00 per month, plus overdraft interest at 22% per year. Footnote 36 says Overdraft Protection is not charged if one or more account co-owners is a resident of Quebec. The additional account services page says the monthly fee is waived for RBC VIP Banking and RBC Signature No Limit Banking. Interest still applies if you use the overdraft.
If RBC allows an item past the overdraft limit, the booklet prints an Overdraft Handling Fee of $5.00 plus applicable overdraft interest. Footnote 38 says a Quebec resident is not charged that $5.00 handling fee for overdrawing the Overdraft Protection limit. RBC pays past the limit only at its discretion.
If the account is overdrawn, the overdraft agreement says you will make a deposit at least once each month in an amount that covers the monthly overdraft interest. That deposit covers interest. It is not described as a refund of an NSF fee. Overdraft Protection needs credit approval. Cancelling it takes effect the next monthly cycle, and RBC says it will refund or credit any amount paid for the unused portion of that month.
What to say to RBC
Use the number on the statement. "Hello. I am calling about one NSF fee. The date is [date]. The amount is $10.00. Please tell me whether this item would have overdrawn the account by less than $10, or whether another NSF fee was already charged on this account within two business days. If neither is true, I am asking you to review this fee and reverse it."
Use $10.00 only if that is the amount on your line. A U.S. dollar account is a different currency. If RBC says yes, ask which statement shows the credit. If RBC says no, ask for the written complaint steps. How to ask your bank to refund a fee has the 56 day note for a Canadian bank complaint.
What the booklet does not say
Nothing opened today says RBC must refund an NSF fee because you deposited the next morning. The two limits are about when the fee is charged. A fee that was charged inside those limits can still be reviewed if you ask, and RBC can refuse. The US debit-card opt-in rule on how to ask about an overdraft fee does not set this Canadian fee. Other banks' overdraft plan prices are in Canada overdraft fees by bank.
