What an EB* Eventbrite charge means

EB * on a statement is Eventbrite's short name for a ticket bought in the app or on Eventbrite.com. The letters after EB * are the start of the event title, not a random code. The city can say San Francisco because that is where Eventbrite is based, even when the event is in another city. Match the title, the date, and the amount to the ticket email before you dispute it.

The lines Eventbrite prints

Eventbrite's help article says an online or in app ticket may appear as EVENTBRITE, as EVENTBRITE, SAN FRANCISCO CA, or as EB * followed by the first 15 characters of the event title and then SAN FRANCISCO CA. Its example is a ticket to Corgi Festival 2026 in Lexington, Kentucky, which might show as EB *CORGI FESTIVAL 202 SAN FRANCISCO CA. The event is not in San Francisco. The headquarters city is what the statement prints.

Refunding attendees can create a different charge. EB *Payin for event is funds added back to the event to cover refunds, often when an organizer refunds many orders. EB *Refund to buyer is a refund processed on the organizer's card instead of adding funds to the event. Those are organizer charges, not a fan buying one ticket.

Publishing and ads have their own names. Eventbrite lists EVENTBRITE AD CAMPAIGN, EVENTBRITE PRO SUB for an Eventbrite Pro subscription on the new pricing, EVENTBRITE EMAIL PAYG for a higher email limit, and EB* EVENT LISTING FEE for a Flex plan that Eventbrite says is no longer available as of September 2024. Those can also show as EVENTBRITE.COM ORG FEE, SAN FRANCISCO, CA. Eventbrite emails a receipt for each of them.

Pending, duplicate, and other labels

Eventbrite's duplicate charge article says a declined purchase is the most common cause of a second charge. The extra amount shows as pending and should disappear within 5 to 7 business days. If it is still there after seven business days, contact Eventbrite. If you have two posted orders, log in, open Tickets, and ask the organizer for a refund of the extra order. If one order was charged twice, contact Eventbrite.

The bank, not Eventbrite, chooses some extra words. Eventbrite says Recurring next to an Eventbrite charge does not mean the charge will repeat. An American Express purchase sometimes displays as Business Services. A PayPal checkout follows PayPal's merchant name. PayPal lines are on what a PayPal charge means. A hold that has not posted is on pending vs posted.

A ticket you meant to buy is not a subscription, even if the bank printed Recurring. An Eventbrite Pro subscription is the organizer plan, and that one can renew. Cancel that plan in the organizer account if you do not want the next EVENTBRITE PRO SUB charge. The general steps are on how to cancel a subscription.

Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo groups the same merchant when a similar amount shows up again about a week, a month, or a year apart, and it lists a line that already says membership or subscription. You can also mark a name yourself. It does not cancel the plan, and it does not count the charge as savings. One month can miss a yearly renewal. The longer checklist is find subscriptions from a statement.

Questions

Why does EB * say San Francisco when the event was somewhere else?
Eventbrite says the statement shows San Francisco because that is where Eventbrite is headquartered, no matter where the event is. The event title is the text after EB *.
Does the word Recurring mean Eventbrite will charge me again?
Eventbrite says no. Recurring on the bank line does not mean the ticket charge is scheduled to repeat. An Eventbrite Pro subscription is a separate organizer charge.
What if I see two Eventbrite amounts?
Eventbrite says a declined try often leaves a pending charge for 5 to 7 business days. Two real orders are refunded by the organizer. One order charged twice is a question for Eventbrite.
