How to ask about an Amex Blue Cash Preferred annual fee
Blue Cash Preferred is a US cash back card, not the Gold Card and not Platinum. The card page prints a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $95. It also prints a foreign transaction fee. Asking American Express to remove a fee already charged is a request.

The fee on the card page
Opened 19 October 2026. The Blue Cash Preferred page prints an annual fee of $0 intro for the first year, then $95. The question section on that page repeats it: a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $95 per year. If your statement shows an annual fee in the first year, write the date and ask which year the account is in. This guide does not guess from the open date.
The same page says the card charges a foreign transaction fee of 2.7% on each transaction after conversion to US dollars. That percent is not the annual fee. Foreign transaction fees explains the line in general, and foreign transaction fees by US card issuer is the issuer table. Do not multiply either fee by 12. The annual fee is already a yearly charge. The 2.7% applies to a foreign purchase, not to every month.
Cash back and credits are not the fee
The page says card members can earn 6% cash back at US supermarkets on up to $6,000 in purchases a year, then 1%, plus 6% on select US streaming subscriptions, 3% on transit, 3% at US gas stations, and 1% on other eligible purchases. Cash back arrives as Reward Dollars that can be redeemed as a statement credit. A statement credit is money returned or rewards applied. It is not proof the annual fee was waived.
The page also describes a Disney streaming credit of up to $10 a month, up to $120, when you use an enrolled card for a subscription on named US Disney sites. Enrollment and the site rules matter. That credit is not the $95 annual fee. If both show on the statement, keep them as separate lines. How to read a statement PDF is the split between fees, purchases, and credits.
What this page does not copy
The Gold Card agreement opened the same day has a 30 day voluntary-close refund window. The Blue Cash Preferred page does not print that sentence. Do not copy the Gold window onto this card. The general discussion is can you get a credit card annual fee refunded when you cancel. Ask American Express what the agreement for your account says, with the statement in front of you.
The page compares Preferred with Blue Cash Everyday and says the main difference is the rewards and the annual fee. It prints the Preferred fee. It does not print an Everyday annual fee in that answer. This guide does not invent one. It also does not print an additional-card fee. If a second fee appears, ask what it is instead of guessing.
The page does not print a downgrade menu or a retention offer. Asking whether you can move to a different American Express card is a request. This page does not tell you to close the card. How to ask about a card annual fee is the general script.
What to ask
Use the phone number on the statement if it is printed there. Have the date, the fee name, and the amount. Ask whether the account is still in the introductory year. Then ask American Express to review the fee or remove it. They can say no. This page has no success rate.
If the answer is no, ask the last day you can close so the next annual fee is not charged, and ask whether a fee that already posted comes back. You can also send a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after you have their answer. US bank fees links that step. Expenvo does not file the complaint, and it does not promise the fee will be removed.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the card company, and it does not cancel a card or a purchase.
Questions
- Is Blue Cash Preferred $95 in the first year?
- The card page says the introductory annual fee is $0 for the first year, then $95. If a fee posts in year one, ask American Express which year the account is in. The statement is the record.
- Is the 2.7% foreign transaction fee the annual fee?
- No. The page prints both. The annual fee is $0 then $95. The 2.7% is a percent of a foreign transaction after conversion to US dollars.
- Does the Disney credit waive the annual fee?
- The page describes a streaming credit of up to $10 a month on named sites after enrollment. That is a credit on eligible purchases. It is not a published waiver of the annual fee.
- Will American Express remove a fee it already charged if I ask?
- They might, and they might not. Asking is a request. The Preferred page does not say American Express has to waive a fee already on the statement.
