How to waive an ATB Unlimited Account fee
You get the published rules for the ATB Unlimited Account, the words to look for on a statement, and a short list of questions for the phone. Asking ATB to remove a fee already charged is a request. ATB can say no. This page does not promise a waiver.

Unlimited Account
These amounts are in Canadian dollars. They come from ATB's Unlimited Account page.
ATB lists a $15.95 monthly fee. It is waived with a minimum daily balance of $4,000 throughout the month, or if you are a full time post secondary student aged 26 or older with proof of enrollment. Interac e-Transfer and Interac e-Transfer Request Money are unlimited and free. An electronic statement is free.
Global Transfers on that page are $5 CAD when the amount is $50 to $999.99, free from $1,000 to $10,000, and $15 CAD for the special countries ATB lists. Overdraft protection is separate. ATB says you pay only if you use it: a minimum of $4, or interest, whichever is greater. Interest is 17.25% a year on the daily closing overdrawn balance. The Generation Account, for Albertans 25 and under, and the Freedom Account, for people 59 or older, are different products on the same page.
A newcomer offer is also different. ATB's New to Canada page says eligible newcomers can get the Unlimited Account fee at $0 for the first year. That page is not the everyday $15.95 rule. A $250 new client bonus on the Unlimited page is not a fee.
Find the fee on the statement
Look for monthly fee, account fee, or plan fee. Write the date, the printed name, and the amount. A day below $4,000 can end the balance waiver for that month. The page says the balance has to hold throughout the month.
A $15.95 fee charged every month for 12 months is $191.40. The result is arithmetic. It is not a quote from ATB, and it is not money ATB has agreed to return.
What to ask ATB
Use the phone number on the statement if it is printed there. Ask whether the daily balance stayed at $4,000, whether student proof is on file, or whether a newcomer year still applies. Then ask ATB to review the fee. They can say no.
Expenvo can list a bank fee that is already on a statement. It does not call ATB.
Questions
- What balance waives the $15.95 fee?
- ATB says a minimum daily balance of $4,000 throughout the month. A student who is 26 or older can use proof of full time post secondary enrollment instead.
- Is the Generation Account the same fee?
- No. ATB lists the Generation Account, for Albertans 25 and under, as its own product with no monthly fee. The Unlimited Account is the $15.95 account.
- Will ATB remove a fee it already charged if I ask?
- They might, and they might not. Asking is a request. Nothing on this page says ATB has to waive a fee already on the statement.
