What an Anthropic or Claude charge means

A card line for Claude is a paid plan or API usage from Anthropic, or a charge from Apple or Google if you subscribed in the app store. Anthropic's help pages tell you to match the receipt. They do not print one required string such as ANTHROPIC* for every bank.

What the price page prints

Anthropic's pricing page, opened 17 October 2026, lists Free at $0. Pro is $17 per month with the annual discount, which is $200 billed up front, or $20 if billed monthly. Max starts from $100 per month. The page says prices do not include tax and can change. Pro can be monthly or annual. Max on that comparison table is monthly. Team plans can be monthly or annual. Enterprise self serve and sales assisted plans on the table are annual.

Payment methods on the same table: Pro and Max accept a credit card and do not list ACH. Team accepts a credit card and does not list ACH. Enterprise self serve accepts a credit card and ACH. Sales assisted Enterprise adds invoicing. If your bank line is a card purchase, it fits the Pro, Max, or Team card path. An ACH line would fit the enterprise path the table allows, not the Pro card path.

Anthropic's paid plan billing FAQ says the article is about Pro and Max bought on the web. If you subscribed in Claude for iOS or Claude for Android, Apple or Google Play handles the payment, and you manage the receipt in that store account. A line that says Apple or Google can still be Claude. Those descriptors are on apple.com/bill and GOOGLE*.

The full list of these short names is on statement codes.

How to match the receipt

For a web Pro or Max plan, open Settings, then Billing, then Invoices, and use View next to the invoice. Anthropic also emails every invoice to the billing address. Search for the subject Your receipt from Anthropic. Match the amount and the date to the statement. The FAQ does not give a card descriptor to search for. Use the receipt subject and the amount.

Anthropic says web subscriptions accept only credit or debit cards. There is no way to edit a paid invoice after it is finalized, and support cannot reissue it. If the card on the account failed, the FAQ says the account can be downgraded. Check Settings, then Billing, for the payment status.

Annual billing is one charge up front. Switching from monthly to annual credits unused time toward the first annual invoice. In some upgrades the leftover value is stored as credit and used on a later purchase. A credit on the card can be that credit, not a separate refund from your bank. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current period.

How to stop the next charge

Anthropic says you can cancel anytime and the plan stays active until the period ends. To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. On the web or the desktop app, go to Settings, then Billing, and click Cancel. In the App Store or Google Play, cancel under Billing, then Manage subscription, or in the Apple or Google account. Team and self serve Enterprise are canceled by an Owner or Primary Owner under Organization settings, then Billing. Sales assisted Enterprise goes through the Anthropic contact or sales.

Canceling does not delete chats, projects, or files. Pro and Max move to the Free plan when the period ends. Payments are generally non refundable, except where the consumer terms say otherwise or local law requires it. Outside Europe, Anthropic points you to Get help, then Claude Refund Request. An App Store subscription is refunded by Apple. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, a refund can be requested in the app within the 14 day withdrawal period.

How to cancel a subscription is the general checklist. The button that stops Claude on the web is in Settings, then Billing. If the posted charge was not yours, use dispute a charge in the US or dispute a charge in Canada.

Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines so you can match a short name to a date and an amount. It does not call the bank, and it does not dispute a charge.
