What a TurboTax, H&R Block, or Wealthsimple Tax charge means
A TurboTax, H&R Block, or Wealthsimple Tax line is the tax product, not a bank fee. It often appears once a year, near the date you paid to file. The pages opened 17 October 2026 do not print one required card code such as a star prefix. The name usually includes Intuit, TurboTax, H&R Block, or Wealthsimple. A voluntary $0 payment may not appear as a card charge at all.

What the line can say
Intuit's public article about Intuit charges does not print a required TurboTax descriptor. Do not treat a guessed prefix as proof. Start with the email receipt and with Products and billing in the Intuit account. The separate guide for Intuit letters is IN * or Intuit. If the line is only a payment company, use PayPal or the app store guides.
TurboTax's pricing page says the price depends on the complexity of the return and the service level, and that the price is shown before you pay. It can change. This guide does not copy a starting at dollar from a sale banner. H&R Block's guarantees page, opened 17 October 2026, does not print a software sticker price. Wealthsimple's tax page does print plan prices, and those are quoted below as of that page.
A charge in December or January can be a renewal for the next tax season, not a second copy of the return you already filed. TurboTax Advantage is the name Intuit uses for that renewal path. Canceling the renewal is separate from asking for a refund of the product you already used.
TurboTax and H&R Block refunds
TurboTax's refund article, updated 28 May 2026, says TurboTax Online can be used at no cost until you submit payment. Once payment is received, the product is treated as used to prepare the taxes, even if you do not print or e-file, and even if the return is rejected. That payment is non refundable. A purchase through Google Play or Apple is refunded by that store, not by this form.
The same article says that starting December 2025, some retailers sell TurboTax Online products. Those retailer online products do not come with a 60 day satisfaction guarantee and Intuit treats them as non refundable. TurboTax Desktop bought directly from TurboTax, including TurboTax Advantage, or through an authorized retailer, can qualify for a 60 day money back guarantee. The article says refunds are not guaranteed. If you think you qualify, sign in, open Products and billing, and use Want to request a refund. The form is for valid refund requests. A request can be denied if Intuit does not have enough detail. A TurboTax Online Guarantee claim uses the process in the Online Terms of Service, not this refund form.
H&R Block's software satisfaction guarantee says that if you are dissatisfied with the tax preparation software for any reason before you file, H&R Block will refund the full purchase price you paid to H&R Block or an authorized reseller, excluding shipping and handling, taxes, and any rebate. You must tell them why within 60 days of the initial purchase and mail proof of purchase to H&R Block Money back Guarantee, P.O. Box 32110, Kansas City, MO 64171. The Maximum Refund Guarantee for online or software filing refunds the software fees if an error in the software entitles you to a larger refund or a smaller tax bill, and you may amend at no additional charge. The claim has to be in the calendar year the return was prepared, and it does not cover bad information you supplied, a choice not to claim a credit, conflicting tax laws, or tax law changes after 15 October 2025. The accuracy guarantee for software reimburses penalties and interest from a software error up to a maximum of $10,000, with the same tax law cutoff. That $10,000 is a cap on penalty reimbursement, not the price of the software. The No Surprise Guarantee can be 20 percent off the next year's preparation if named benefits are missed. Limitations apply.
Wealthsimple Tax
Wealthsimple's tax page, opened 17 October 2026, says Basic is pay what you want, including $0, for up to 2 returns, with no form restrictions. Plus is $40 plus tax, for up to 8 returns, and it is free for Premium clients. Pro is $80 plus tax. The page says Pro covers 9 or more returns, and a later answer says up to 20 returns because the Canada Revenue Agency limits NETFILE certified software to 20 returns per computer or online account. Pro is free for Generation clients. Pro is not available for residents of Quebec or in French. The chart on that page was last updated December 2025. The help article on pay what you want, updated 16 October 2026, says a Basic contribution is voluntary. It mentions a competitor range. That range is not a verified TurboTax or H&R Block price, so it is not repeated here.
The user agreement says some services may be free, such as Tax Basic, and others have fees, such as Tax Plus and Tax Pro. On Basic, before you submit or download the return, you can choose an optional payment. Except where the agreement says otherwise, payments are non refundable. The maximum refund guarantee says that if you refile before 31 December 2026 with a competitor, using identical information, and the competitor produces a larger refund, Wealthsimple refunds the competitor's purchase price or license fee up to a maximum of $50 CAD, or any payment you made for the year, whichever is greater. Differences under $2, and differences from rounding, do not count. You need proof of purchase and the notices of assessment. Wealthsimple Tax is NETFILE certified by the CRA and Revenu Quebec for tax years 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Dispute a tax software payment with the company named on the receipt before you dispute the card. The agreement lists [email protected] and SimpleTax Software Inc., suite 400 at 80 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, ON, M5V 2J4. A card dispute is for a charge you did not authorize. Steps for that are on dispute a charge in the US and dispute a charge in Canada.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo groups the same merchant when a similar amount shows up again about a week, a month, or a year apart, and it lists a line that already says membership or subscription. You can also mark a name yourself. It does not cancel the plan, and it does not count the charge as savings. One month can miss a yearly renewal. The longer checklist is find subscriptions from a statement.
