What an E-ZPass, FasTrak, SunPass, TxTag, or 407 ETR charge means

A toll charge is the road, the bridge, or a bill for a licence plate the camera read. It is not a monthly bank fee. E-ZPass, FasTrak, SunPass, TxTag, and 407 ETR are different agencies. They do not share one dispute window. The pages opened 17 October 2026 do not print one required card descriptor for any of them. The name on the statement usually includes the agency or the tag brand.

What the line usually is

Match the date to a trip, not to a subscription price. A tag account charges the toll to the card or bank account you stored. A car with no tag can get a plate invoice later, and that invoice can be a different company from the tag on your other car. A rental car is a third pattern. The rental company or a toll service it uses may bill you after the trip, and that name may not be E-ZPass or FasTrak. Write down the descriptor, the date, and the amount before you call. If the letters are only a bank label such as CHECKCARD or an ACH debit, the merchant name is the second half of the line. Those bank labels are on CHECKCARD and ACH and pre-authorized debit.

None of the agency pages opened for this guide print a required star code. Do not search your statement for a made up prefix. If the brand is missing, the charge may be a plate bill, a rental toll service, or a payment processor in the middle. A pending toll that later changes amount is covered in spirit by pending vs posted. Two posted tolls on the same minute can be two gantries, or a duplicate. Compare the times to the trip before you call it a double charge. Charged twice is the checklist for two posted amounts.

SunPass and 407 ETR, which print a path

SunPass, on the FAQ opened 17 October 2026, says you can dispute a toll through the SunPass website, the mobile app, mail or fax, a walk-in center, or the SunPass Customer Service Center at 1-888-TOLL-FLA (1-888-865-5352). An account holder signs in and selects Online Support. Someone without an account uses Contact Us at the bottom of the home page and Email SunPass. That FAQ also says SunPass does not treat internet-generated statements as official documents in a dispute. Keep the toll notice or the account record, not only a screenshot of the bank line. This phone number and these steps are SunPass. They are not the rule for every E-ZPass state.

407 ETR's dispute page, opened 17 October 2026, says to call 1-888-407-0407 and speak to a customer service representative, or contact them on the web. Have your name, account number, licence plate, and postal code. If that call does not resolve it, you can speak with a Customer Advocate from the Office of the President. If it is still open, outline the dispute in writing to the Office of the Ombudsman. The page says the Ombudsman is not a shortcut. You follow those steps first. A Notice of Failure to Pay under the Highway 407 Act has its own timelines, printed on that notice. Use the notice, not a guess from this page. The 407 page does not print a card descriptor and does not print a sample toll price. A Canadian plate line that is not 407 may be a different road. Dispute a charge in Canada is the card dispute, which is separate from the toll agency's own form.

E-ZPass, FasTrak, and TxTag

E-ZPass is a group of agencies. A dispute window printed by one turnpike is not the window for every state that uses the name. This guide does not copy a single E-ZPass day count, because the page that would have to apply to every agency was not one national rule. Start with the agency named on your account or on the invoice. If the line says only E-ZPass, the statement date and the state of the trip tell you which agency to open.

The Bay Area FasTrak help index opened 17 October 2026 lists help, violations, and invoices. It does not print one dispute deadline or one card descriptor. Use the help page for the account you actually have, and do not invent a FasTrak star code. TxTag pages were not used for a dollar amount or a phone number in this guide, because a single national TxTag descriptor was not printed on the pages relied on here. In the Austin area, more than one agency can bill a toll, so read the invoice name before you call the wrong office. A rental toll billed by a company that is not the tag is that company's charge.

Parking apps are a different charge. PayByPhone is the parking line, not a highway toll. If the bank will not explain the merchant, the card dispute paths are dispute a charge in the US and dispute a charge in Canada. The agency can still be the faster call, because the bank may only see a toll payment you or the rental company authorized.

Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo groups the same merchant when a similar amount shows up again about a week, a month, or a year apart. A toll can repeat without being a membership. You can mark the name yourself. Expenvo does not call the toll agency, and it does not promise a credit. A line you still cannot place is on unknown charge on a statement.

Questions

Is there one card code for every toll?
No. The SunPass, FasTrak, and 407 ETR pages opened on 17 October 2026 do not print a required descriptor. The line usually includes the agency or the tag brand.
How do I dispute a SunPass toll?
SunPass lists the website, the app, mail or fax, a walk-in center, or 1-888-TOLL-FLA. Account holders use Online Support. That path is SunPass only.
Does the 407 ETR Ombudsman replace the first call?
No. 407 ETR says to call 1-888-407-0407 or use the web first, then a Customer Advocate, and only then the Ombudsman in writing. A Notice of Failure to Pay follows the timelines on that notice.
