Collection item fees at US and Canadian banks

A collection item is a cheque the bank sends away to be paid, and credits only if the money arrives. It is not an NSF fee and not a wire. This page is the dollar Wells Fargo, TD Bank, and BMO printed on 20 October 2026.

The collection dollar

Opened 20 October 2026. A deposited cheque that later bounces is a different fee, on returned deposit and returned item fees and returned deposit fees at Canadian banks. A foreign currency cheque deposited the ordinary way is on foreign currency cheque fees. The line on your own statement is the one that counts. Upload it on the upload page. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank.

A booklet that does not print the dollar

RBC's Personal Deposit Accounts booklet dated 3 August 2026 does not print a collection item dollar in the fee tables opened that day. This page does not fill that gap with an older figure.

Questions

Is Wells Fargo's $25 the same as the $80?
No. The schedule prints $25 per item for collections in the US, incoming and outgoing. The $80 is an international item collection, and that row also says the item amount has a $250 minimum.
Is a collection fee the same as NSF?
No. NSF is a payment that did not clear because the account did not have the money. A collection fee is for sending an item out to be collected.
Does BMO's 0.125% apply to a $100 cheque?
No. Cheques up to C$250 are $15.00. The 0.125% row is for cheques over C$250, with a $25 minimum and a $200 maximum.
