Counter check and temporary check fees at US banks
A counter check is a blank check the branch prints when you do not have your own checks with you. Some banks call a short pad of those temporary checks. Chase and U.S. Bank print a dollar. A cashier's check, a money order, and a box of personal checks are different lines. Figures can change.

Chase and U.S. Bank
Opened 19 October 2026. Chase's personal additional banking services and fees, copyright 2026, describes a counter check as a blank page of 3 personal checks printed at a branch when you ask, at $3 per page. An order of personal checks, deposit slips, or other supplies is a different row, and the price varies by what you buy, shipping, and tax. Chase Private Client Checking's list of fees you will not pay includes counter checks, money orders, and cashier's checks. Do not assume every Chase account is in that list. The fee schedule says Chase updates the document. Get the current copy at chase.com, a branch, or by phone if the statement disagrees.
U.S. Bank's consumer pricing information, effective August 10, 2026, prints counter checks at $2.00 per check. The business pricing information, effective May 11, 2026, prints counter checks at $2.00. That business cell does not say per check. Do not assume the business $2.00 and the consumer $2.00 per check are the same unit. Ask which schedule the account uses. A page of three Chase checks at $3 is $1 each only if you use the whole page. U.S. Bank's consumer line is per check, not per page.
| Schedule | What it prints | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Chase personal additional services | $3 | Per page of 3 checks. Private Client Checking's you will not pay list includes counter checks. |
| U.S. Bank consumer pricing, August 10, 2026 | $2.00 | Per check |
| U.S. Bank business pricing, May 11, 2026 | $2.00 | The cell says counter checks. It does not say per check. |
What this fee is not
A cashier's check is a check the bank issues. Chase's personal schedule prints $10 per cashier's check, and a money order up to $1,000 at $5. Those dollars are on US official check fees and money order fees. Do not call a $10 cashier's check a counter check. A box of checks you order to your home is cheque and check ordering fees. That page includes First Citizens, which prints a counter check dollar on a California and Massachusetts disclosure. This page does not copy that dollar again.
Bank of America's personal schedule effective August 7, 2026 prints check and deposit ticket orders at a fee that varies, and it does not print a counter check dollar in the section read here. Wells Fargo's public pages opened for other guides did not give this page a counter check dollar, so none is stated. If a teller quotes a fee, ask them to show the line on the current schedule. A fee for the teller transaction itself, when a business account prints one, is on teller and branch transaction fees.
What to ask
Before you accept the page of checks, ask the price per page or per check, and whether your account type waives it. Write the amount if it posts later under a vague name such as check or supplies. A temporary pad and a full order can both appear. Ask which one the line is. If you think the account should have waived it, ask the bank to review the fee. They can say no. How to ask your bank to refund a fee is the wording.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the card company, and it does not cancel a card or a purchase.
