How to get a TD Canada Trust NSF fee refunded
TD's List of Services and Fees, effective 5 March 2026, prints a $10 fee when TD does not approve a cheque or payment on a Canadian dollar account, and $5 USD when it does not approve one on a U.S. dollar account. The fees page says TD will not charge that NSF fee more than once within 2 business days on the same personal deposit account, or if you are overdrawn by less than $10. TD does not print a deposit window that refunds the fee after it posts.

The fee when TD does not approve the item
Opened 20 October 2026. Amounts in this section are Canadian dollars unless the line says USD. The PDF says the $10 fee applies if you have overdraft protection and the cheque or payment is higher than the funds in the account plus your overdraft limit, and TD does not approve it. The same $10 applies if you do not have overdraft protection and the item is higher than the funds in the account, and TD does not approve it. On a U.S. dollar account the not-approved amount is $5 USD. A payment includes a re-presentment. The table that compares banks is Canada NSF fees by bank. The monthly package is on how to waive a TD monthly fee. This page is TD Canada Trust, not TD Bank in the United States.
Footnote 10 on TD's accounts and fees page says TD will not charge you an NSF fee more than once within 2 business days on the same personal deposit account. It also says you will not be charged an NSF fee if you are overdrawn by less than $10. EasyWeb can label the line NSF Fee.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank, and it does not move the money.
When TD approves the item instead
If TD pays an item that is over the funds, or over the overdraft limit, the PDF prints a different charge: $5 plus interest at 21% a year on the overdraft amount. For Quebec accounts with overdraft protection, the PDF says you pay the 21% interest and not the $5 fee when the item is paid.
Monthly Plan Overdraft Protection on Every Day, Unlimited, or All-Inclusive is $5 a month plus 21% interest. Plan 60 or Preferred is $4 a month plus 21%. Student, U.S. Daily Interest, and Borderless are $0 a month plus 21%. Minimum Chequing is $5 a month plus 21%, or $0 a month plus 21% while the monthly account fee is $0 because a holder receives the Guaranteed Income Supplement, is a beneficiary of a Registered Disability Savings Plan, is an Indigenous person from Canada, or is a newcomer in the first year in Canada. Quebec accounts with Monthly Plan Overdraft Protection pay $0 a month plus 21%.
Pay As You Go is $5 for each eligible overdraft transaction, maximum $5 a day, plus 21% interest. The PDF says Pay As You Go is not available on Quebec accounts. These plan fees are the cost of the protection. They are not an NSF refund.
What to say to TD
TD does not publish an automatic refund if you deposit the next day. The call is about one posted line.
Use the number on the statement. "Hello. I am calling about one NSF fee on my TD Canada Trust account. The date is [date]. The line says NSF Fee. The amount is [amount]. Please tell me whether this was a second fee inside 2 business days, or whether the account was overdrawn by less than $10. If neither is true, I am asking you to review the fee and reverse it."
Say the amount you see, $10 or $5 USD, not a number from another bank. If they reverse it, ask when the credit shows. If they refuse, ask for the complaint steps. In Canada the bank has 56 calendar days to answer a complaint in writing. The general page is how to ask your bank to refund a fee.
What TD does not print
There is no TD sentence, on the PDF or the fees page opened today, that says a deposit the next business day refunds an NSF fee. The caps above are limits on when TD charges the fee, not a courtesy refund after the fact. How to ask about an overdraft fee explains a US debit-card rule. That US rule does not set the fee on this Canadian account. Overdraft plans at other Canadian banks are in Canada overdraft fees by bank.
