How to ask about a Capital One Venture annual fee

You get the annual fee Capital One prints for the Venture card, the words to look for on a statement, and a short list of questions. Asking Capital One to remove a fee already charged is a request. Capital One can say no. This page does not promise a waiver.

What this fee is

An annual fee is a charge for having the card. It is not a store purchase, not a subscription, and not a refund. A miles bonus is not the annual fee. Do not multiply a once a year fee by 12.

Match the card name on the statement. Venture, VentureOne, and Venture X are different cards. How to ask about a card annual fee is the general page. Your card agreement controls the fee, not this page.

The fee on the Capital One pages

This amount is in US dollars. The Venture card page shows $95. Capital One's Venture explainer says there is a $95 annual fee for the Venture card, and it points readers to the rates and disclosures. The card comparison also lists Venture Rewards at a $95 annual fee.

The explainer says VentureOne is a travel rewards card without an annual fee. If the statement says VentureOne, do not use the $95 figure. Venture X is also a different card. This page does not copy a Venture X fee.

The Venture page says there is no foreign transaction fee on purchases outside the United States. That is a statement that this particular fee is not charged. It is not a statement about any other fee. Foreign transaction fees explains the charge other cards can add.

Find the fee on the statement

Look for a line named annual fee or annual membership fee. Write the date and the amount. A US dollar Capital One statement stays in USD. How to read a statement PDF separates fees from purchases and payments.

If Capital One later credits the fee back, that credit is money returned. It is not a new expense, and it is not a subscription.

What to ask Capital One

Use the phone number on the statement if it is printed there. Have the date, the fee name, and the amount. Ask which card is on the account. Then ask Capital One to review the fee or remove it. They can say no. This page has no success rate, because a made up rate would be a guess.

If the answer is no, ask the last day you can close the card so the next annual fee is not charged. This page does not tell you to close the card. You can also send a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after you have Capital One's answer. US bank fees links that step. Expenvo does not file the complaint, and it does not promise the fee will be removed.

Questions

Is every Capital One travel card $95 a year?
No. Capital One lists a $95 annual fee for Venture. The Venture explainer says VentureOne has no annual fee. Venture X is a different card. Match the name on the statement.
Does no foreign transaction fee mean the annual fee is $0?
No. Those are different charges. Venture can have a $95 annual fee and still list no foreign transaction fee.
Will Capital One remove an annual fee it already charged if I ask?
They might, and they might not. Asking is a request. Nothing on this page says Capital One has to waive a fee already on the statement.
Can Expenvo tell me the next annual fee will be $0?
No. Expenvo can list a fee that is already on a statement. It does not know what Capital One will charge next year.
