How to ask about a TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite annual fee

You get the annual fee TD prints for the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite card, the words to look for on a statement, and a short list of questions. Asking TD to remove a fee already charged is a request. TD can say no. This page does not promise a waiver.

What this fee is

An annual fee is a charge for having the card. It is not a store purchase, not a subscription, and not a refund. Interest and a cash advance fee are different lines. Do not multiply a once a year fee by 12.

Match the card name on the statement. The TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum card is a different card. How to ask about a card annual fee is the general page. Your card agreement controls the fee, not this page.

The fee on the TD page

These amounts are in Canadian dollars. They come from the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite card page.

TD lists an annual fee of $139. It lists $75 for an additional cardholder. The page says the card requires $60,000 in annual personal income or $100,000 in annual household income, and that you are a Canadian resident of the age of majority where you live.

The same page says you can get an annual fee rebate every year with a TD All-Inclusive Banking Plan. That is a published benefit for people who have that plan. It is not a statement that TD will remove a fee already charged. How to waive a TD monthly fee covers the All-Inclusive account fee, which is separate from this card fee.

TD also describes a first year annual fee rebate. The page says that to receive it you must activate the card and make your first purchase on the account within the first 3 months after account opening. It says the first additional cardholder first year rebate requires adding that cardholder while the offer is in effect. TD says the offer may be changed, withdrawn, or extended at any time. A welcome offer is not the annual fee, and it is not a promise that your fee will be $0.

Find the fee on the statement

Look for a line named annual fee. Write the date and the amount. A Canadian dollar TD card statement stays in C$. How to read a statement PDF separates fees from purchases and payments.

If TD later credits the fee back, that credit is money returned. It is not a new expense, and it is not a subscription.

What to ask TD

Use the phone number on the statement if it is printed there. Have the date, the fee name, and the amount. Ask whether the charge is the primary card, an additional card, or both. Ask whether a first year rebate or an All-Inclusive Banking Plan rebate applies to this account. Then ask TD to review the fee or remove it. They can say no. This page has no success rate, because a made up rate would be a guess.

If the answer is no, ask the last day you can close the card so the next annual fee is not charged, and ask whether closing leaves a balance. This page does not tell you to close the card. Closing can change your available credit. That choice is yours.

Upload a statement in Expenvo to see the bank fee lines it recognizes, listed on their own. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo does not call TD, and it does not promise the fee will be removed.

Questions

Is the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite annual fee $139 for every cardholder?
The card page lists $139 for the card and $75 for an additional cardholder. A first year rebate and an All-Inclusive Banking Plan rebate are separate published offers. TD says offers can change or be withdrawn. The statement shows the amount you were charged.
Should I multiply $139 by 12?
No. $139 is already the yearly fee TD lists. Multiply by 12 only when the statement shows that same fee every month.
Will TD remove an annual fee it already charged if I ask?
They might, and they might not. Asking is a request. Nothing on this page says TD has to waive a fee already on the statement.
Does Expenvo tell me to close the card?
No. If TD will not remove the fee, you can ask what happens if you close the card. The choice is yours.
