CIBC stop payment is C$12.50

By Karla CastroUpdated November 1, 2026

CIBC's personal account service fees brochure dated March 12, 2026 prints C$12.50 per request to stop a cheque or pre-authorized payment when full details are provided, and C$20.00 when they are not. An Interac e-Transfer stop is C$3.50 per request.

Full details or not

Opened 1 November 2026. The current fee list prints C$12.50 per request for cheques and pre-authorized payments when full details are provided, and C$20.00 per request when they are not. An Interac e-Transfer stop is C$3.50 per request. CIBC says that C$3.50 fee applies to all account types and is not subject to waiver. The same PDF's change notice says that on January 16, 2027 the cheque and pre-authorized stop becomes C$15.00 with full details and C$25.00 without them. Until that date, the March 12, 2026 list is C$12.50 and C$20.00.

A footnote says this stop excludes pre-authorized debits set up with CIBC Advantage Debit Card details. To stop those, CIBC says to contact the merchant. Smart Account Tier 2, for clients with an average monthly balance of deposits and investments of C$40,000 or more, includes fee rebates for stop payments on cheques and pre-authorized payments only. That rebate line does not mention the C$3.50 Interac stop.

How to use the lower printed fee

Give the full details the brochure asks for, so the request is the C$12.50 row rather than the C$20.00 row. An Interac e-Transfer stop stays C$3.50, and CIBC says it is not waived. A debit card recurring charge set up with the Advantage Debit Card is not this cheque stop. The fee can post as its own line.

Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank, and it does not stop the payment.
