Expenvo vs YNAB

YNAB is a budgeting app with a published subscription. Expenvo reads a statement PDF on your device and lists bank fees and subscriptions. It does not ask you to sign in to the bank. The prices below are copied from each company's own page.

Price

Expenvo Free is $0 USD for one bank statement upload in a calendar month. Pro is $5.99 USD/month or $47 USD a year. Pricing lists what each plan includes.

YNAB's pricing page lists a monthly plan at $14.99 USD a month and an annual plan at $109 USD a year, which that page also shows as $9.08 USD a month. It says tax applies where it does. The page says a direct signup includes 34 days free and does not ask for a credit card. It says a third party app store may still ask for a card on a trial.

The same page says a subscription can be shared with up to six people, and that college students can request a 365 day trial with proof of enrollment. YNAB says its price is in US dollars.

How transactions get in

YNAB's pricing page says you connect accounts and track them in one place. A later question on that page says direct import supports select US, Canadian, UK, and EU banks, and that file based import is available when direct import does not. The page footer says YNAB is an agent of Plaid for regulated account information services.

Expenvo does not connect to the bank and does not ask for a bank login. You download the statement PDF yourself. How to read a statement PDF covers that file. The PDF stays on your device.

YNAB's page describes a plan for what money is for, goals, and debt tools. Expenvo sorts the lines on a statement, lists bank fees, and lists subscriptions. It does not assign a job to each dollar, and it does not tell you to cancel a subscription.

What this page does not say

YNAB's pricing page also prints average savings figures for people who use YNAB. Those figures are YNAB's claim about YNAB. This page does not repeat them as an Expenvo result, and it does not argue with them.

A product that connects to the bank and a product that reads a PDF are built for different steps. Use the current pricing page if a number here is out of date.
