How to ask about an RBC Avion annual fee
You get the annual fees RBC prints for three named Avion cards, the words to look for on a statement, and a short list of questions. Asking RBC to remove a fee already charged is a request. RBC can say no. This page does not promise a waiver.
What this fee is
An annual fee is a charge for having the card. It is not a store purchase, not a subscription, and not a refund. Do not multiply a once a year fee by 12.
Avion is more than one card. Match the full card name on the statement before you use a figure below. How to ask about a card annual fee is the general page. Your card agreement controls the fee, not this page.
Three Avion cards
These amounts are in Canadian dollars unless the table says otherwise. They come from RBC's annual fee comparison and the RBC Avion Visa Infinite page.
The comparison lists RBC Avion Visa Infinite at $120 a year, with $50 for an additional card. It lists a minimum income of $60,000 personal or $100,000 household. The Avion Visa Infinite page also lists an annual fee of $120.
The same comparison lists RBC Avion Visa Platinum at $120 a year and $50 for an additional card. It lists RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege at $399 a year and $99 for an additional card, with a minimum income of $200,000 personal or $200,000 household. Those are different cards. A $120 figure does not describe Infinite Privilege.
RBC's comparison page says that in some cases students, seniors, and clients with more than one RBC product can be eligible for an annual fee rebate. The examples on that page are an ION+ Visa student rebate, and rebates RBC says may apply to an eligible card for VIP Banking or Signature No Limit Banking clients. The page does not say every Avion annual fee is removed. A welcome points offer is not the annual fee.
Find the fee on the statement
Look for a line named annual fee. Write the date, the card name, and the amount. A Canadian dollar RBC card statement stays in C$. How to read a statement PDF separates fees from purchases and payments.
If RBC later credits the fee back, that credit is money returned. It is not a new expense, and it is not a subscription.
What to ask RBC
Use the phone number on the statement if it is printed there. The Avion Visa Infinite page and the annual fee comparison both list 1-800-769-2512, and collect calls at 1-514-392-9167 from outside North America. If a number on your statement disagrees with those pages, use the statement.
Have the date, the fee name, and the amount. Ask which Avion card is on the account, and whether the charge includes an additional card. Ask whether any published rebate applies. Then ask RBC to review the fee or remove it. They can say no. This page has no success rate, because a made up rate would be a guess.
If the answer is no, ask what happens if you close the card before the next annual fee. This page does not tell you to close the card. Upload a statement in Expenvo to see the bank fee lines it recognizes. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo does not call RBC, and it does not promise the fee will be removed.
Questions
- Do all RBC Avion cards cost $120 a year?
- No. RBC lists $120 for Avion Visa Infinite and for Avion Visa Platinum, and $399 for Avion Visa Infinite Privilege. Additional card fees on that comparison are $50, $50, and $99.
- Does RBC have to waive an Avion annual fee for a client who also has a bank account?
- No. The comparison page says some clients may qualify for a rebate on an eligible card. It does not say every Avion fee is removed. Asking is a request.
- Will RBC remove an annual fee it already charged if I ask?
- They might, and they might not. Nothing on this page says RBC has to waive a fee already on the statement.
- Can Expenvo tell me the next Avion fee will be $0?
- No. Expenvo can list a fee that is already on a statement. It does not know what RBC will charge next year.
