What an INSTACART charge means on your statement

People look up INSTACART because that is the text on the statement. Instacart's help pages do not print that exact line. They explain temporary holds, the one final charge, and when an Instacart+ membership bills.

Why the line looks like that

Instacart's help page says temporary authorization holds cover added items, replacements, and weighted items. You can see more than one hold if you add items after placing the order. A hold may be higher than the order total. Instacart says the bank releases the hold and updates the final total after delivery or cancellation. Extra time depends on the bank. That page does not print the letters INSTACART. It says a repeating charge happens only if you renew Instacart+.

Instacart says contacting Instacart is faster than a bank dispute. A dispute may freeze the account and take up to 90 days.

One final charge, and the membership date

Instacart's terms say placing an order authorizes a hold for the goods, the fees, and an optional tip. You are charged once the order is finalized. Later changes can create more temporary holds. They are not duplicate charges. There is one charge for the final total.

The Instacart+ billing date is on Your Instacart+ Membership. Instacart says you are charged within 24 hours of that date. The date can move for a holiday, a technical issue, or payment processing. Instacart also says the card issuer may send updated card details, and Instacart may use them to keep the membership going. To opt out of card updater services, contact the card issuer.

Receipt lines and a charge you do not recognize

Instacart's pricing help lists these receipt lines: Original Charge, Additional Charge, Adjustment Charge, Refund for order issue, and Total Charged. A same day refund can adjust the original charge and may not be a separate line. A full same day refund may make the original charge disappear. Most refunds appear in 5 to 10 business days. To report a bad charge, open Your orders, select the order, and choose Report. Instacart also has an unrecognized charges form.

Upload the statement to Expenvo and it lists every subscription it finds. A grocery order is not a subscription. Instacart+ is the membership. Expenvo does not cancel Instacart+ for you. Steps for stopping the next charge are on how to cancel a subscription you found on a statement.
