What a Sezzle charge means

A Sezzle charge is a payment to Sezzle for an order you split into installments, or a refund of that order. Sezzle says a purchase that does not have Sezzle in the name was not completed with Sezzle.

What the line is

Opened 20 October 2026. Sezzle's overcharge article says to check whether the charge is labeled as Sezzle. If the charge does not have Sezzle in the name, the purchase was not completed with Sezzle. You can confirm that if the charge is under the store's name and you do not see an order in your Sezzle account. The store name alone is the store's own charge. It is not this page.

Sezzle also says a pending charge is not always the amount that will post. For a new order, Sezzle may authorize the payment method for the total amount, while the charge posts only for that installment. Sezzle says this typically happens within 7 business days, though usually sooner, and that the bank decides how a pending line is shown. A pending total and a later installment are not two purchases. Wait for the pending line to drop. Pending lines in general are on pending and posted.

On a virtual card order, Sezzle says that if the merchant settles for more than the purchase request, the remainder is charged separately, in full, in one payment. A tip added after the card is run is the example Sezzle gives. That second line can still say Sezzle. Match it to the order before you treat it as a new shop.

Fees and refunds

Sezzle's fee article says Sezzle's own fees are charged together with the payment they belong to, so you see one charge from Sezzle rather than a separate Sezzle line for the fee. A service fee on a virtual card order is applied with the down payment. Other fees are charged with the installment once it is paid. The article says a bank fee is different: the bank charges it separately, and that separate line can still be labeled Sezzle because the Sezzle payment is what overdrew the account. Sezzle tells you to ask the bank about that line. This page does not copy a dollar amount for that bank fee. Your bank's schedule is the number.

Sezzle's refund article says a refund of an installment order goes back to the card on file used for down payments. Because of how the payment system works, the refund may show as separate lines in even amounts lined up with the installments that were left. Sezzle's example is a $9 refund with three payments left, shown as three lines of $3. That is Sezzle's example, not your refund. Sezzle says refunds can take up to 10 business days from the date of Sezzle's email, and that business days exclude weekends and holidays. Sezzle also says fees are not refundable. A refund can leave the fee still owed.

A pay later plan from another company is a different line. Klarna, Afterpay, and Affirm are the other names already on this site.

If you do not recognize it

Open the Sezzle account and match the date and the amount to an order. Sezzle's overcharge article says that if there is no Sezzle order, and the statement uses the store name, the purchase was not made with Sezzle.

If the date and the amount do not match a receipt, an email, or a purchase someone on the card made, it may be a charge you did not allow. In the United States, use dispute a charge in the US. In Canada, use dispute a charge in Canada. A name you still cannot place is on unknown charge on a statement. The code list is on statement codes. Upload the statement on Expenvo. Questions

Does the store name mean it is Sezzle?
No. Sezzle says that if the charge does not have Sezzle in the name, the purchase was not completed with Sezzle. A store-name line with no Sezzle order is the store's charge.
Why is the pending amount the whole order?
Sezzle says it may authorize the total and post only the installment. Sezzle says that usually finishes within 7 business days, often sooner, and that the bank explains how the pending line works on that account.
Why did a refund arrive as several small credits?
Sezzle says an installment refund may post as separate even amounts, one for each remaining installment. Sezzle's example is $9 returned as three lines of $3. Fees are not refunded.
Is a second Sezzle line always a Sezzle fee?
Not always. Sezzle says its own fees are added onto the installment, so they are not a second Sezzle charge. A separate line from the bank can still say Sezzle. Ask the bank about that one.
