Bank draft and cashier's check fees in the US and Canada
A cashier's check or a bank draft is a payment the bank issues, usually at a branch. The fee is its own line. A wire transfer is a different service, with its own guides. Every dollar below was on that bank's page on 17 October 2026. Check your bank's current fee schedule before you order one, because these amounts change.

United States cashier's checks
Chase's Additional Banking Services and Fees for personal accounts, effective 14 June 2026, says a cashier's check is a check issued by the bank, purchased at a branch, for any amount and to a payee you designate, at $10 per check. A money order, issued by you and purchased at a branch, is up to $1,000 at $5 per check. The document says Chase updates it and you can get the current version at chase.com, a branch, or by phone. A note says these fees may be waived with certain account types. Chase Private Client Checking's 'you won't pay' list includes counter checks, money orders, and cashier's checks. Do not assume every Chase account is $0. The $10 is the fee schedule amount unless your account type waives it.
Bank of America's financial center FAQ, opened 17 October 2026, says a customer with a checking or savings account can get a cashier's check for a $15 fee, waived for customers enrolled in Preferred Rewards. The FAQ says to read the Personal Schedule of Fees for the full waiver details. Someone without a Bank of America checking or savings account cannot get a cashier's check there. The same FAQ says safe deposit fees are set by the local financial center and does not print a box dollar. That rent question is on safe deposit box fees.
Wells Fargo's consumer and business fee page, opened 17 October 2026, says checking and savings customers can order a cashier's check online up to $2,000, or in person for larger amounts, with a $6,000 monthly limit per customer. The fee printed there is $10 each. Online delivery to a US address adds an $8 delivery charge. Delivery is not available to P.O. boxes. Allow up to 3 business days for Alaska and Hawaii. A lost, stolen, or destroyed cashier's check needs a stop payment and reissue in a branch, plus an indemnity agreement. Over $1,000, the waiting period is 90 days, 30 days in Wisconsin, and 91 days in New York, unless an acceptable surety bond is used. The page also says some accounts waive fees, so check the schedule for your account before you treat $10 as your price. A money order on that page is $5, up to $1,000. The phone for consumer accounts is 1-800-869-3557.
Comerica's Personal Deposit Account Services and Charges, effective 1 August 2025, for the California brochure and the Southeast Michigan brochure, prints cashier's check $10.00 each, and says these fees may change at any time without prior notice. Rich Rewards Checking on the Southeast Michigan brochure includes 3 free cashier's checks per year. That benefit is not printed as an Access Checking benefit. Monthly account waivers are on how to avoid the Comerica checking monthly fee. Banks whose cashier's check pages were not opened are left out. This is not a full national table.
Canada bank drafts
TD Canada Trust's List of Services and Fees, effective 5 March 2026, says a bank draft from a TD branch is $9.95. TD All Inclusive Banking Plan or TD Wealth Private Banking: no service fee. Borderless Plan: no service fee on US dollar drafts. If the draft is in a different currency from the account, you buy that currency at TD's rate. The fee is in Canadian dollars. A refund or replacement for a lost or stolen Canadian or US dollar draft is $10.00. Any other currency is $22.00. You may need a surety bond or pledged assets. Certifying a cheque is a different line: $10.00 if the account holder asks, $15.00 if someone else asks. Check your bank's current fee schedule if your statement date is after 5 March 2026.
RBC's additional account services page, opened 17 October 2026, lists bank drafts in all available currencies at $9.95 each. Up to 12 a year are included with RBC VIP Banking. Up to 6 a year are included with RBC Signature No Limit Banking. RBC's bank draft page says the same $9.95, names CAD, GBP, and EUR, and says RBC is not able to cancel or stop a bank draft. A replacement or refund can require a bond of indemnity. Order one at a branch in Canada. The two RBC pages do not describe the currency list in identical words. Ask the branch which currencies they will issue before you rely on a third currency.
CIBC's additional service fees page lists bank drafts and money orders at $9.95 for Canadian currency, $9.95 Canadian for US currency, and $9.95 Canadian for other foreign currency. The asterisk says this can be in addition to a transaction fee. A replacement is no fee when the item is drawn in Canadian currency, and $25.00 when it is drawn in US currency or another foreign currency. Some conditions apply. CIBC says to ask an advisor.
BMO's Agreements, Bank Plans and Fees for Everyday Banking, effective 2 June 2026, lists money orders or drafts in available currencies at $9.95. US dollar money orders and drafts are available at no cost when purchased through a US dollar personal account. The booklet says the receiving institution may charge its own fees, and that a foreign currency draft can be refused if the payee does not clear sanctions screening. Scotiabank Canada's personal fees page, opened 17 October 2026, lists a CAD or USD draft for Scotiabank customers at $9.95, free with the Ultimate Package when the account is in good standing. An older rates PDF that prints different draft dollars was not used, because the personal fees page is the consumer table opened for this guide. Scotiabank in Turks and Caicos is not this page.
A draft is not a wire
A wire moves money to another bank account. A draft or cashier's check is a paper instrument you hand to someone. The fees are different lines on a statement. Wire amounts already collected are on wire transfer fees, US wire transfer fees, and Canada wire transfer fees. Do not subtract a wire fee from a draft fee or call them the same product.
If the draft fee on your statement does not match the schedule for your package, call the number on the statement with the date and the amount. An included draft that was still charged is a request, not a guarantee. The wider maps are US bank fees and Canadian bank fees.
Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists bank fee lines it recognizes so you can see the date, the name, and the amount before you call. It does not call the bank, and it does not promise a refund. How to ask is on how to ask your bank to refund a fee.
