What a GitHub charge means on your statement

A GitHub line is a charge for a paid GitHub plan, seats, or another paid GitHub product. The docs opened here do not print a card descriptor and do not print a plan price. The statement name usually includes GitHub. Confirm it under Billing and licensing in the GitHub account, and in the receipt email.

What the billing docs print

GitHub says a downgrade or cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle, and that it is not prorated. An upgrade is billed immediately and is prorated. Adding seats is prorated and starts right away. Removing seats waits until the next cycle unless you also remove the person's access.

Each account is billed on its own. Changing your personal plan does not change an organization's plan, and the other way around. Changing the plan also does not change billing for Copilot or for paid apps from GitHub Marketplace.

GitHub's example: if you pay on the 5th and cancel on October 10th, the subscription stays active until November 4th and downgrades on November 5th. Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device.

How to downgrade a personal account

GitHub's steps: profile picture, Settings, Billing and licensing, Additional billing details. Under Current plan, open Edit and choose Downgrade to Free. Read what you will lose on the next billing date, then choose I understand. Continue with downgrade.

An organization owner uses Billing and licensing on the organization, then Edit, then the downgrade option. If an enterprise owns the organization, GitHub says you cannot change billing on the organization itself.

Upload the statement to Expenvo and it lists every subscription it finds. Expenvo does not cancel GitHub for you. Steps for stopping the next charge are on how to cancel a subscription you found on a statement.
