What a Squarespace charge means on your statement

A Squarespace charge is a website, a domain, email, Acuity, digital products, or a small card check when you add a payment method. Squarespace prints the statement text and the invoice number to look for. Cancel the subscription you do not want. The others keep billing.

How the line looks

Squarespace's unknown charge article, last updated 28 September 2026, says charges typically appear as Squarespace, Inc or SQSP, followed by INV, then a nine digit invoice number. Write that number down. Mobile banking apps sometimes hide the full description, so open the full statement if the invoice number is missing. The help page's own image descriptions say the activity can show SQSP INV and an invoice number.

A charge can be a renewal of an active subscription, or a pre authorization to confirm a card. Squarespace says a pre authorization is usually charged when you add or update a payment method, typically $0.00 or $1.00 depending on your bank, or when you make a first subscription purchase, typically two identical charges. Depending on the bank, those pre authorizations are typically cancelled or credited back in 3 to 5 business days. If they are still there after they settle, contact the bank. A pending hold and a posted charge are also explained on pending vs posted charges.

Two different amounts are often two subscriptions, such as a site and a domain, or more than one Google Workspace user. Squarespace bills subscriptions independently. If several renew on the same day, they can share one invoice. Statement codes is the wider list of short names. Unknown charge on a statement is the page if the invoice number still does not match an account you know.

Match the invoice, then cancel

Log in, open the Billing panel, click Invoices, and compare the invoice number with the statement. A domain only account uses the Domains dashboard. The invoice lists the subscriptions and the amounts. If you cannot log in, reset the login, then contact Squarespace if it still fails. You can also give the nine digit number to Squarespace's support chat.

All Squarespace subscriptions renew automatically unless you turn auto renew off. Cancel each one you do not want. For a website, open the Billing panel, click the subscription, then Cancel subscription. A monthly plan stops at the end of the billing cycle. An annual plan also stops at the end of the cycle unless you are inside the refund window. Inside that window, Squarespace offers Retain Access, which cancels at the end of the cycle, or Get Refund Immediately, which takes the site offline and refunds. Outside the window, the site stays online until the cycle ends. This page does not copy a number of days for that window, because the cancel article points at a separate refund policy for the length.

Canceling stops automatic payments and keeps the data so you can reactivate. Deleting a site is a different step. After the subscription ends, the site becomes private. Other products, such as a domain or email, can keep billing after the website is canceled, so read the other subscriptions panel before you assume the card will go quiet. Google Domains customers may see a Squarespace charge because Squarespace is now the domain host. Manage that domain in the Domains dashboard.

If you dispute an active subscription with the bank, Squarespace says it may cancel that subscription and the site can go down. It emails the owner and contributors with admin or billing permission. If the dispute was a mistake, contact the bank to cancel the dispute.

Questions

What does SQSP mean on a statement?
Squarespace says charges typically appear as Squarespace, Inc or SQSP, then INV and a nine digit invoice number. Match that number to an invoice in the Billing panel.
Why are there two small Squarespace charges?
A first subscription purchase can create two identical pre authorization charges. Adding a card can create a charge that is typically $0.00 or $1.00. Squarespace says those are typically credited back in 3 to 5 business days.
Does canceling the website stop the domain charge?
No. Squarespace bills subscriptions separately. Cancel the domain, email, Acuity, or digital products plan on its own if you do not want that charge.
