What a Sam's Club membership renewal charge means
A Sam's Club line near your renewal date is often the membership, not a shopping trip. Sam's Club's own help page names a Sam's Club Member Renewal charge. A $1 line tied to Auto Renew is a card check, not the yearly fee. The yearly amount is on the notice Sam's Club sends. This page does not invent that dollar.

What the line can say
Sam's Club's Auto Renew help page, opened 18 October 2026, answers the question of why a credit or debit card shows a Sam's Club Member Renewal charge. Members on Auto Renew are notified by email or mail. The notice includes the renewal date and the total that will be charged. Members without a valid email get mail up to 30 days before renewal. Members with a valid email get a notice up to 14 days before. The payment is processed on the renewal date and includes membership fees, add ons, and local taxes where they apply.
The same page says a $1 charge related to Auto Renew is a hold to check that the card is still active. That $1 falls off once the card is charged for the full renewal. It is not the membership fee. A pending hold and a posted fee are different. See pending and posted charges.
The terms page says that if the primary member or the complimentary household cardholder enrolls in Auto Renew, Sam's Club charges the membership fee, existing add on fees, and applicable taxes to a card on file or a payment method in the digital wallet about one day before the membership term ends. New memberships bought with a debit or credit card, and members who upgrade or renew, are enrolled in Auto Renew with notice. The help pages opened here do not print one Club price and one Plus price. Read the total on your notice. Costco's membership, which is a different company, is on what a Costco membership charge means.
How to stop the next renewal
To turn Auto Renew off, Sam's Club says to sign in, open Manage Membership under Account, choose Cancel Membership, and confirm. The help page says cancelling the membership makes the membership and all add on memberships expire on the listed date. You can also remove Auto Renew in the online account, at a club's Member Services Desk, or by contacting Sam's Club. The phone printed on the cancel page and the terms is 1-888-746-7726.
The cancel page says that for an immediate cancellation and refund, visit the Member Services Desk at any club, or call that number. It does not print a number of days after which a renewal is non refundable. Do not add a window that the page does not show.
A Sam's Club credit card can bill the renewal a different way. The credit card FAQ says Automatic Billing charges the Sam's Mastercard for the annual renewal, and that it applies to Sam's Club credit card holders. For help with that Autobill, call the number on the card or on the billing statement. That is not the same button as Auto Renew on a different debit card.
Match it before you dispute it
Match the date and the amount to the renewal email. A warehouse purchase on the same day is a separate line. Upload the statement on Expenvo. The PDF stays on your device. Expenvo lists the lines. It does not sign in to the bank or the company, and it does not cancel a membership. Expenvo does not cancel a Sam's Club membership. Steps for a subscription billed by someone else are on how to cancel a subscription.
Walmart+ is a different membership, on what a Walmart+ charge means. Do not use the Sam's Club phone number for a Walmart+ plan.
